Prayagraj Father and Daughter Killed in Tragic Road Accident, Family Shattered
In a heartbreaking incident in Prayagraj on Tuesday afternoon, a father and his only daughter lost their lives after a speeding truck rammed into their scooter at Leprosy Crossing. The impact was so severe that both died on the spot, leaving behind a family broken beyond repair.
The victims were identified as Ratnesh Srivastava and his daughter Yashi. Ratnesh, a resident of the Kareli police station area, was employed as a clerk at Maharshi Vidya Mandir, Dhoorvani Nagar, Naini. Just three months ago, he had been transferred to Maharashtra, but he had been desperately trying to cancel the transfer and stayed back in Prayagraj.
Yashi, his only child, was a bright Class 12 student at the same school. Every day, Ratnesh would ride to the school to bring his daughter home after her classes. On Tuesday, this routine act of love turned into a devastating tragedy.
The Accident and Aftermath
Eyewitnesses said the truck driver sped away immediately after the collision, leaving the victims lying on the road. Before locals could gather in large numbers, the truck had vanished. The accident caused a traffic jam at the crossing until the Naini police arrived, examined the CCTV footage in the area, and cleared the scene.
Police identified the victims through the scooter’s registration details and informed their families. When relatives reached the mortuary and saw the bodies of Ratnesh and Yashi, their grief turned uncontrollable. The bond of a father who lived for his daughter and a daughter who was the center of her father’s world was cruelly severed in an instant.
A Growing Menace Ignored
The tragedy also underscores a grim reality: reckless driving continues to claim countless lives in Uttar Pradesh, yet the menace shows no signs of abating. Neither the drivers, who escape accountability, nor the authorities, who seem indifferent to enforcing road safety, appear to take the issue with the urgency it deserves.
On Monday, a bank manager was crushed to death under a Nagar Nigam truck in Prayagraj in a similar accident. The list of victims grows longer each day, but the response remains painfully inadequate.
For Ratnesh’s family, however, statistics mean nothing. They have lost a father, a daughter, a bond, and a future that can never be replaced.
