UP Constable Arrested in Chandauli for Allegedly Leaking Police Movement Details to Cattle Smugglers

A police constable has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district for allegedly passing sensitive information about police movement and patrol routes to cattle smugglers, helping them avoid checkpoints and cross district borders undetected, officials said.

The accused, identified as Satyendra Yadav, was taken into custody from Ambedkar Nagar, his native district. At the time of his arrest, Yadav was already under suspension.

According to police, he allegedly received money from smugglers through both online transactions and cash payments in exchange for sharing confidential information.

Chandauli Superintendent of Police Akash Patel confirmed the arrest, stating that the constable’s involvement came to light during the investigation of a separate cattle smuggling case in which a resident, Shyam Babu, had been apprehended.

While examining Babu’s mobile phone records, investigators reportedly discovered regular communication between the two through WhatsApp calls and messages.

During questioning, police alleged that Yadav had been in contact with several individuals involved in cattle smuggling and had provided them with crucial inputs regarding police deployment, patrolling schedules, and routes considered relatively safe for transporting cattle illegally.

Officials believe this information enabled smugglers to evade law enforcement and carry out their activities more easily.

Police sources further said that Yadav had previously been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly assisting smuggling operations, indicating that the matter had been under scrutiny for some time.

Authorities highlighted that strict action has been ongoing in the district against cattle smuggling networks.

Since January 1 this year, police in Chandauli have registered 46 cases related to cattle smuggling involving 127 accused individuals.

During these operations, 345 cattle have been rescued, and 55 vehicles allegedly used in illegal transportation have been seized.

Data from last year also points to sustained enforcement efforts. In 2025, police registered 162 cases against 410 individuals linked to cattle smuggling.

During that period, authorities recovered 1,297 cattle, seized 90 kilograms of beef, and confiscated 178 vehicles allegedly connected to such illegal activities.

Police have also taken preventive measures under stringent legal provisions.

Action under the Uttar Pradesh Goonda Act has been initiated against 17 accused persons, while nine cases have been registered under the Gangster Act involving 38 individuals suspected of being part of organised smuggling networks.

Officials say the latest arrest reflects continued efforts to crack down not only on smuggling networks but also on any internal misconduct that could undermine enforcement operations.

Investigations in the case are ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further action may follow if additional links are established.
