In a significant development for the legal fraternity of Uttar Pradesh, Rakesh Pandey has been elected as the President of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) for the third time, reaffirming his strong support base among the legal community.

Alongside him, Akhilesh Kumar Sharma emerged victorious in the race for the crucial post of Secretary.

The elections, held on July 23, saw an impressive voter turnout, with 8,773 lawyers casting their votes to elect representatives to 28 key positions within the HCBA.

This turnout represents a robust 85 percent participation rate, reflecting the high level of engagement and interest among members of the Bar Association.

The counting process, described as meticulous and extensive, stretched over six days under the supervision of Chief Returning Officer Radha Kant Ojha. After careful verification and tabulation, the results for the top two posts—President and Secretary—were formally declared on Tuesday.

Rakesh Pandey secured his third term as President by defeating his closest competitor, CP Upadhya, by a narrow margin of 193 votes. Pandey garnered 2,121 votes, while Upadhyay received 1,928 votes.

The closely fought contest highlighted the competitiveness of the election and the significant influence of both candidates.

In contrast, the contest for the post of Secretary saw a decisive victory. Akhilesh Kumar Sharma triumphed over his nearest rival, Ray Sahab Yadav, by a commanding margin of 937 votes.

Sharma received a total of 2,885 votes, whereas Yadav managed 1,948 votes. Santosh Kumar Mishra secured the third position in the Secretary race with 1,149 votes, marking a clear three-way competition.

While the results for these two high-profile posts have been declared, the vote counting for the remaining 26 posts of office-bearers is still ongoing.

Returning Officers Vashistha Tiwaari, Mahendra Bahadur Singh, and Anil Bhushan stated that the counting process will continue for another two days, after which the final results for all posts will be announced.

These elections are considered highly significant in shaping the functioning and representation of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, one of the most prominent and influential bar associations in the country.

The re-election of Rakesh Pandey signals continuity and experience, while Akhilesh Kumar Sharma’s victory reflects a strong mandate for fresh leadership in the Secretary’s role.
