Against the backdrop of heightened infiltration attempts and renewed activation of terror launch pads across the border, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir remain locked in a relentless battle to prevent terrorists from gaining a foothold in the region.

Recent intelligence inputs, coupled with ground-level encounters, have prompted an expansive and coordinated security response stretching from the International Border to the mountainous reaches of the Line of Control (LoC).

On Sunday, the police and security forces jointly launched an intensive search operation in Udhampur district following information that two unidentified terrorists had visited a house in Chore Motu village the previous evening to seek food.

Officials said the house belonged to Mangtu Ram, a resident of the village in Majalta tehsil.

The village lies barely five kilometres from the site of a fierce encounter that took place on Monday evening between terrorists and joint security forces.

During that exchange of fire, a police officer laid down his life, while two of the three terrorists are believed to have sustained injuries.

Taking advantage of darkness and the dense forest cover, the injured militants managed to escape.

According to official sources, the two terrorists reached Mangtu Ram’s house around 6.30 pm on Saturday and took food, an act that immediately raised an alarm.

Acting swiftly, security forces cordoned off Chore Motu village and launched a door-to-door search operation, combing nearby forested areas and escape routes to trace the militants.

Simultaneously, in an effort to eliminate every possible infiltration threat, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies have intensified a massive joint operation spanning from the International Border to the higher reaches along the Line of Control.

The exercise, described as an area domination operation, is aimed at flushing out infiltrators attempting to exploit weather conditions and difficult terrain.

The searches were launched following intelligence inputs indicating that terrorists may be attempting to cross over under the cover of dense fog, amid a sudden spike in militant activity at multiple launch pads across the border.

The districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Rajouri have been placed under heightened vigilance.

Adding to the concern, a senior Border Security Force officer had revealed last month that nearly seven months after Pakistan suffered extensive damage to its terror infrastructure during India’s Operation Sindoor, it has once again activated close to 72 terror launch pads opposite the Jammu region.

These launch pads, officials said, are located in depth areas alarmingly close to the border.

Of these, around 12 launch pads have reportedly become active in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the International Border, while nearly 60 are positioned across the LoC.

The renewed activation underscores the persistence of cross-border terror networks and the evolving challenges faced by Indian security forces.

For the men on the ground, there is little room for respite. Senior officials say the security grid remains on constant alert, with forces determined to neutralise every infiltrator before they can strike.

Relief, they assert, will come only when every terrorist who has crossed over to disturb peace is eliminated. Until then, this war against terror remains unyielding and unforgiving.
