While the country is celebrating independence a group of people had been planning to create unrest in Assam.
The Assam police have busted a gang of 20 youths who had formed a new militant group to create anarchy and unrest in the northeastern part of the country.
The arrests were made in the Kokrajhar-Chirang forests.
The security forces have captured many firearms and explosives from the possession of the disgruntled youth.
Only last week, amid the change of government in Bangladesh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had expressed concern over a potential resurgence of militant groups in the Northeast.
This clearly indicates that the chief minister had foreseen that some people would try to copy the anarchy that was successfully evolving in the neighborhood and the police were also alert.
Sharing the information on social media platform X, Assam Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap said, “Another success for Assam Police in Kokrajhar-Chirang forests, we’ve been able to intercept and bring out a group of 20 youths who had been trying to form a new militant group for the last three/four months. They’ve listened to reason and come out and handed over the weapons held by them.”
The weapons recovered during the operation include 6 automatic rifles, 4 single shot rifles, 3 pistols with magazines, 54 rounds of AK rifle ammunition, 9 rounds of pistol ammunition and five hand grenades, Singh said.
