Rising Road Accidents in Prayagraj Claim Another Life: Scooterist Crushed by Truck in Khuldabad

Prayagraj witnessed yet another heartbreaking tragedy on Thursday night, when a 32-year-old scooterist named Shani, son of Govind and a resident of Lukarganj, lost his life in a road accident on Banerjee Road in the Khuldabad police station area.

According to police reports, Shani, who worked at a local grocery store, had closed the shop late at night around 11 p.m. and was returning home on his scooter, following his usual routine.

While attempting to overtake a truck from the left side, he lost control of his vehicle. His scooter skidded and overturned, and in that split second, the rear wheels of the truck crushed him to death on the spot.

The horrifying incident shocked passers-by, who rushed to the scene. In a rare act of quick response, residents managed to catch the truck driver and hand him over to the police. Khuldabad Station House Officer Surendra Verma confirmed that the driver has been taken into custody and legal proceedings are now underway.

But this tragedy is not an isolated one. Two to three people are losing their lives every week in Prayagraj due to road accidents, while dozens more are being left injured. Families are being torn apart, grief-stricken and helpless, as such incidents continue to rise.

Experts point out that most road fatalities occur either because of reckless driving and speeding by heavy vehicles, or due to errors in judgment by two-wheeler riders trying to navigate dangerous roads.

Sometimes it is the victim’s mistake, sometimes it is the negligence of others—but in every case, it results in irreparable loss for the families left behind.

It is high time that the local traffic police and administration step in with strong, effective measures to curb these accidents. From stricter enforcement of traffic rules to awareness campaigns and improved road infrastructure, authorities need to chalk out a comprehensive plan to stop these untimely and harrowing deaths.

Every life lost on the road is not just a number—it is a family left devastated, mourning the absence of a loved one for the rest of their lives.

Shani’s death once again highlights the urgent need for road safety awareness and strict accountability. Unless concrete steps are taken now, tragedies like this will continue to haunt Prayagraj’s streets week after week.
