Sambhal administration embarks upon encroachments, power theft near Shahi Jama Masjid. Power theft of 1,25 crore detected
After the deadly confrontations over a judicial- inspection of the Shahi Jama Masjid that resulted in four fatalities, local authorities have initiated operations targeting unauthorized constructions and electricity theft around the historic mosque.
The administration commenced its anti-encroachment and anti-electricity theft drive in the vicinity on Sunday morning. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shrish Chandra stated that efforts will clear drainage systems outside residential properties and commercial establishments in the Nakhasa police station jurisdiction.
The location is near Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Zia ur Rehman Barq’s residence. The ASP said that the operation, intended to reclaim public areas and ensure proper drainage functionality, began at 7 am.
During the campaign, authorities discovered an unauthorized cache of household gas cylinders in a residence. Supply Inspector Yogesh Shukla reported finding 25 cylinders at Haji Rabban’s property. “Although the household claimed the cylinders were intended for a wedding celebration, they failed to produce the required permits. The cylinders, including two full ones and the remainder empty, were seized, and legal action will be initiated,” Shukla informed.
On the other hand, the electricity department conducted extensive operations against power theft. Executive Engineer Naveen Gautam revealed that during an inspection at Deepa Sarai, officials discovered unauthorized electrical connections in four mosques and one madrasa. “Approximately 130 kilowatts of electricity, valued at nearly Rs 1.25 crore, was being illegally consumed. The investigation identified 49 individuals involved in the theft, against whom criminal complaints are being registered,” Gautam reported.
In related news, the Bhasma Shankar temple, which authorities reopened on Saturday, has restored its regular worship services. Mahant Acharya Vinod Shukla confirmed that devotees have resumed visiting the temple, performing rituals, and chanting the Hanuman Chalisa. Security measures include the deployment of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel. Resident Mohit Rastogi expressed appreciation for the temple’s restoration. “My grandfather had shared stories about this temple,” he remarked after serving water to the Shivling and reciting prayers. “I’m grateful to the administration for enabling us to reconnect with our cultural heritage,” he stated.
District Magistrate Rajender Pensiya announced on Saturday that these measures are components of a comprehensive strategy to establish order and combat illegal activities in the Shahi Jama Masjid region.
