Seven-Year-Old Girl Mauled to Death by Stray Dogs Near Lucknow, Renewing Fears Over Growing Canine Menace

A tragic incident on the outskirts of Lucknow has once again drawn attention to the growing danger posed by stray dogs roaming freely in many rural areas.

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly attacked and killed by a pack of stray dogs in a village on Sunday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community and reigniting concerns about the safety of children.

The victim, Anshika Vishwakarma, was found dead in a patch of thick vegetation roughly 150 metres from her home in Tarona village, located about 55 kilometres from Lucknow city.

According to police officials, the child had gone out alone in the evening but never returned home, prompting an anxious search by her family and villagers.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that around 6:30 pm, Anshika had stepped out toward nearby bushes to relieve herself.

When she did not come back after some time, her worried family members began looking for her. Soon, neighbours and other residents joined the search, combing through nearby fields and wooded areas.

The search ended in horror when villagers discovered the child’s severely injured body lying in the bushes.

According to eyewitness accounts, several stray dogs were seen standing nearby at the time the body was found.

Alarmed residents rushed to the spot and attempted to drive the animals away, with some villagers chasing them off using sticks.

The child’s parents and relatives arrived moments later, devastated by the sight. Police were informed immediately, and a team from the Rahimabad police station reached the location shortly afterward.

Officers secured the area, took possession of the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

During the initial inspection, investigators noticed multiple deep bite wounds on the child’s body, particularly on the face and hands.

However, police officials said the final confirmation about whether stray dogs were responsible will come only after the medical examination and autopsy report are completed.

The Station House Officer of Rahimabad police station said the circumstances surrounding the attack are still being examined.

Officials are attempting to determine whether the injuries were indeed caused by a group of stray dogs or possibly by another animal.

Anshika was the youngest among three siblings and the daughter of Dileep Kashyap, a farmer in the village. She was a student of Class I and was known among neighbours as a cheerful child.

Her grieving father said that the little girl usually went out accompanied by her elder sister, but on that day, she stepped out alone.

When she did not return for nearly an hour, the family began to worry and started searching for her in nearby areas.

The incident has left the entire village in mourning and fear. Residents say that large numbers of stray dogs roam through the area, often moving in groups, especially in the evening hours.

Villagers claim that repeated concerns about the animals have been raised before, but no effective measures have been taken to control the situation.

Many residents now fear that children in the village remain vulnerable to similar attacks if authorities fail to address the growing stray dog problem.

This tragedy is not an isolated case. Earlier this year, in January, another shocking incident occurred in Moradabad district, where a three-year-old girl was reportedly attacked and killed by a pack of stray dogs in a village.

Such incidents have intensified calls for stricter control measures and better management of stray animals in both rural and urban areas.

As the grieving family prepares to bid farewell to their young daughter, villagers are demanding immediate action from the administration to prevent more innocent lives from being lost to the increasingly dangerous stray dog menace.
