Three Siblings Dead in Fortnight: Hyderabad Family’s Tragic End Sends Shockwaves Through Community

In a heartbreaking sequence of events that has stunned their neighbourhood in Hyderabad, a brother and sister ended their lives in Varanasi barely two weeks after their elder sister was found dead at her residence.

The deceased have been identified as Ganesh Goud (44) and Dhan Laxmi Goud (37). The siblings had travelled to Varanasi to immerse the ashes of their elder sister, Amla Devi, in the Ganga, following her death on January 28.

According to police, Amla had reportedly been struggling with health issues and is believed to have died by suicide.

Officials said the loss appears to have deeply shaken Ganesh and Laxmi, who were emotionally and financially dependent on their elder sister after the deaths of their parents.

Their mother had passed away when they were children, and their father died three years ago. Neither Ganesh nor Laxmi was married.

Station House Officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra said the siblings had checked into a hotel in Varanasi on Sunday and were due to check out on Tuesday.

When hotel staff received no response despite repeated knocks and calls to their room, they alerted the police. Officers opened the room with a duplicate key and found both siblings unresponsive.

Preliminary findings suggest they may have consumed a large quantity of medication.

A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and viscera samples have been preserved for further analysis.

Police recovered identity documents from the room, along with ₹6 lakh in cash. A brief handwritten note was also found, reportedly expressing apology and seeking forgiveness.

Authorities contacted a cousin, Swaroop, using details from the recovered documents.

He informed investigators that the siblings had travelled to Varanasi specifically to perform the last rites of their sister. After completing legal formalities, he performed the final rites for Ganesh and Laxmi in Varanasi as well.

Ganesh was employed as a data analyst at a private firm. Back in Hyderabad, neighbours and acquaintances are said to be in deep shock at the rapid and devastating loss of three members of the same family within days.

Residents described them as quiet and close-knit, struggling privately with grief that ultimately consumed them.

The tragedy has left many in their community reflecting on the silent weight of loss and the importance of timely emotional support during periods of profound bereavement.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please consider reaching out to a trusted person or a mental health helpline in your area for support.
