Labourer on Journey for Work Fatally Hit by Pickup in Shahdol
A tragic accident occurred near the Koraiya police station in Shahdol district, where 55-year-old Dharmpal, a resident of Devgarh village panchayat, died after being struck by a speeding pickup vehicle.
Dharmpal, belonging to a tribal community, had set out from his home in search of employment and was travelling towards Delhi, with Prayagraj as his transit point.
According to initial information, upon reaching Koraiya, Dharmpal reportedly alighted midway near a petrol pump due to the unavailability of further transport and continued walking along the roadside.
Around 11 PM, while he was proceeding towards the local market on foot, a pickup truck suddenly approached from behind and hit him with force, causing grievous injuries.
Local people rushed him to Karsoha Primary Health Centre, but doctors declared him dead shortly after admission.
Police identified him through an Aadhaar card found in his pocket and informed his family. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.
Dharmpal leaves behind his wife and four children, including a young son and daughters.
Villagers described him as a quiet, sincere and hardworking individual who was striving to secure better livelihood opportunities for his family.
The incident has left his family inconsolable and the village community in shock. Police have registered a case and are tracing the truck driver, who fled the scene after the collision.
Young Father Crushed by Speeding Dumper in Prayagraj
In a separate incident in Prayagraj’s Kaundhiyara region, 30-year-old Arun Singh, a resident of Room Kherhat village, died on the spot when a fast-moving dumper rammed into his motorcycle near Jari outpost.
Arun was travelling towards Prayagraj when the dumper coming from the opposite direction collided with his motorcycle at high speed.
The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was completely shattered, and Arun was flung onto the road, sustaining fatal injuries.
Police reached the spot on receiving information from residents and rushed him to the Jasra Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Arun, known for his polite nature and helpful attitude, worked as a labourer to support his family.
He leaves behind his wife, Anshu Sing, and two young children. The tragic news devastated the family, with his wife and mother breaking down in grief.
The children, too young to understand the tragedy, kept calling for their father, adding to the emotional pain of the community.
Villagers mourned his loss and demanded strict action against the negligent driver. Police have sent the body for a post-mortem and commenced a search for the dumper driver, who fled after the accident.
A Reminder of Road Safety Concerns
Both incidents highlight the rising threat posed by speeding heavy vehicles on highways and rural roads.
Continuous demands from villagers for stricter enforcement, better night patrolling and heavy penalties for reckless driving remain unaddressed.
The double tragedy underscores the urgent need for road safety measures to safeguard daily wage earners and commuters.
