Unnao Rape Victim Raises Questions Over Chargesheets

New Delhi | Agency:
The survivor of the Unnao rape case has raised serious questions over the charge sheet filed in the case, alleging deliberate manipulation of facts by the then investigating officer to benefit former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
On Saturday, the survivor staged a protest near the Parliament complex along with social activist Yogita Bhayana and Congress leader Mumtaz Patel, opposing the grant of bail to Sengar.
Allegations made by the survivor
In her complaint, the survivor has made the following claims:
- The investigating officer allegedly produced forged school documents, falsely showing her as a student of a government school where she never studied.
- The charge sheet mentions an incorrect date of birth, and several statements attributed to her were allegedly never made by her.
- The charge sheet states that the survivor was using a phone belonging to a woman named Hira Singh, a claim she has categorically denied, saying she never used such a phone.
Approach to the CBI
The survivor has now approached the Central Bureau of Investigation seeking registration of a case against the former investigating officer. She has alleged that the officer acted in collusion with Sengar, intentionally investigating in a manner that favoured the accused.
She said that a six-page complaint letter has been submitted to the CBI, stating that the investigation was deliberately compromised despite earlier complaints made against the officer, on which no action was taken.
The survivor has further alleged that she and her family are being threatened, and referred to the trial court’s conviction of Sengar to underline how the flawed investigation still attempted to weaken the prosecution’s case.
Mother questions the credibility of the probe agency.
Reacting to the CBI’s decision to move the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court order, the survivor’s mother questioned the agency’s credibility.
“How can we trust the CBI?” she asked, adding that confidence could only be restored if senior CBI officers personally met the family.
She alleged that the investigation agency failed to support them at crucial stages of the trial.
“Had the CBI stood firmly with our lawyer, Sengar’s sentence would not have been suspended,” she said.
Expressing disappointment over the court’s decision, the survivor said it was deeply unjust that one family continues to face threats, while the convicted accused has been given what she described as undue liberty.
“This is injustice,” she said, adding that the pain and fear endured by her family remain unaddressed.
