Yogi Adityanath Explores Japan’s Hydrogen Innovation and Maglev Technology; ₹2.5 Lakh Crore Investment Push Promises 5 Lakh Jobs for Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: On the second day of his Japan visit, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath toured an advanced hydrogen energy facility in Yamanashi, closely examining its cutting-edge Power-to-Gas system — a model widely regarded as a cornerstone of future clean energy transitions.
The facility converts electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar and wind into green hydrogen.
This hydrogen can then be used as a clean fuel, for energy storage, and in sustainable transportation systems.
Calling green hydrogen a “pillar of future energy security,” the Chief Minister emphasised that such innovations represent practical pathways toward environmentally responsible growth.
He noted that Uttar Pradesh is actively promoting green hydrogen, solar power, and other renewable energy initiatives.
The state government is encouraging industrial investment, research partnerships, and technological innovation to position Uttar Pradesh as an energy-secure and environmentally conscious economy.
During discussions, Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki proposed leading a delegation of 200 Japanese CEOs to Uttar Pradesh in August to explore industrial collaboration opportunities.
MoU Signed to Boost Industrial and Educational Cooperation
The governments of Yamanashi Prefecture and Uttar Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in:
- Green hydrogen and clean energy innovation
- Industrial collaboration
- Tourism promotion
- Technical and vocational education
The agreement prioritises technology exchange and sustainable development initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to future-ready industries.
Experience of the Future: Ride on the SCMaglev
During his visit, the Chief Minister also experienced Japan’s world-renowned superconducting magnetic levitation train — the SCMaglev — in Yamanashi.
The high-speed train, capable of reaching speeds of nearly 500 km per hour, is considered one of the most advanced rail systems globally.
Describing the journey as “a glimpse into the future of transportation,” he remarked that despite its extraordinary speed, the ride was remarkably smooth, stable, and safe — a testament to Japan’s technological precision and long-term infrastructure vision.
The SCMaglev is not merely about speed; it represents clean, energy-efficient, and highly accurate mobility systems.
The Chief Minister stressed that Uttar Pradesh aims to draw lessons from Japan’s advanced transport models to build sustainable, modern infrastructure across the state.
Tribute to Japan’s Cultural Legacy
While in Yamanashi, the Chief Minister also visited the iconic Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Widely regarded as a symbol of resilience, discipline, and spiritual harmony, Mount Fuji left a lasting impression.
He described witnessing the majestic mountain on a clear day as a moment of privilege, calling it a symbol of Japan’s timeless beauty and cultural pride.
Investment Boost Expected to Generate 5 Lakh Jobs
The Chief Minister’s four-day visit to Singapore and Japan resulted in Memorandums of Understanding worth approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore and investment proposals totalling nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore.
These commitments are expected to create over five lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh.
Breakdown of Investment Commitments:
Japan:
- ₹90,000 crore in MoUs
- Approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore in investment proposals
Singapore:
- ₹60,000 crore in MoUs
