Lucknow: In a strong message aimed at reinforcing transparency and accountability in governance, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday declared that field postings in the State Tax Department will now depend solely on performance and integrity.

Only officers with a clean image, professional competence, and dedication to achieving revenue targets will be entrusted with key responsibilities, he said.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Tax Department, the Chief Minister assessed the revenue performance across all divisions and interacted directly with zonal officers via video conference.

The session reflected his broader mission of establishing clean governance and a results-driven administrative culture throughout the state.

According to official data presented during the meeting, by September 2025, the State Tax Department collected around ₹55,000 crore, including ₹40,000 crore from GST and ₹15,000 crore from VAT and non-GST sources.

During the same period last fiscal year, the collection had stood at ₹55,136.29 crore. For FY 2025–26, the department has been assigned an ambitious target of ₹1.75 lakh crore, approximately ₹18,700 crore higher than last year’s goal.

Yogi Adityanath underscored that Uttar Pradesh must emerge as a leading contributor to India’s GST revenue through disciplined and well-coordinated planning.

He noted that the recent reforms in the GST regime have revived market momentum, the impact of which will become more visible in the coming months.

Sending a clear signal against harassment and misuse of authority, the Chief Minister instructed officers to avoid unnecessary inspections and raids during Dhanteras and Diwali, ensuring that traders and entrepreneurs conduct business in an atmosphere of trust and respect.

“Our goal,” he said, “is to create an environment where every person who interacts with a government officer feels confidence in the system and experiences the government’s commitment to fairness and efficiency.”

During the detailed review, it was noted that zones such as Bareilly, Saharanpur, Meerut, Gorakhpur, and Jhansi have shown commendable performance, while others have lagged, achieving only 55–58% of their assigned targets.

Adityanath directed the zonal officers of underperforming divisions to submit explanations and formulate immediate corrective strategies to boost revenue collection.

Reiterating his government’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption, the Chief Minister said that honesty, efficiency, and public trust would be the new benchmarks for every officer’s evaluation.

His vision is to make Uttar Pradesh not just a top-performing state in fiscal terms but also a model of transparent and citizen-friendly governance.
