Lalita Ramdas, a respected educationist and widow of Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, the 13th Chief of the Indian Navy, has paid a heartfelt tribute to Himanshi Narwal, hailing her as “the perfect Fauji wife” for her dignified response in the wake of her husband’s tragic death.

Himanshi, the widow of Lt. Vinay Narwal, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, made a powerful appeal for peace and communal harmony on what would have been her husband’s 27th birthday.

Her composed and courageous message—delivered during a blood donation camp in Karnal, Haryana—was a striking act of maturity and compassion that stood in stark contrast to the online vitriol she received from right-wing trolls.

“We don’t want Muslims or Kashmiris to be targeted. We seek peace—only peace. Of course, we want justice, but the guilty should be held accountable, not entire communities,”

Himanshi said, just six days after her wedding, which had been followed by a honeymoon in Kashmir, chosen due to visa delays and her husband’s professional commitments.

Deeply moved by Himanshi’s grace and clarity, Lalita Ramdas, who is also the daughter of Admiral Ram Dass Katari, India’s first Indian Chief of Naval Staff, penned a personal tribute.

Addressing Himanshi as a new member of the naval family, Lalita wrote:

“This is a note from perhaps one of the oldest Navy daughters and wives to one of the youngest in our special sisterhood. I’ve watched your message to the media repeatedly, and I am in awe of your strength, calm, and unwavering commitment to our secular and constitutional values. Your voice, calling for compassion and unity, is so needed in today’s climate.”

Lalita’s letter has been sent to the Chief of Naval Staff’s secretariat, with a personal copy planned for dispatch to Himanshi’s home in Karnal. In it, Lalita echoes Himanshi’s call for peace and justice and commends her for reflecting the finest values of the armed forces and Indian citizenship.

“You are clearly a woman of great conviction—an ideal partner for a Navy man like Vinay. Your words resonate with every Indian who still believes in empathy and unity. We must amplify your message far and wide.”

The emotional tribute was shared widely on social media by independent journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, drawing admiration and support for Himanshi’s stance during such a profoundly personal tragedy.
