Uttar Pradesh lawyers are not ready to abide by the Allahabad High Court’s order that prohibits them from going on a protest strike.

They refrained from work on Friday and would be on strike on Saturday, August 31, even after the high court order described any such activity as contempt of court.

Lawyers representing different district bar associations from all over the state would convene at Allahabad on September 22 and decide upon their future course of action.
Despite the high court’s order that prohibits them from going on protest strike, the order also says that lawyers would commit contempt of court and would be liable for punishment in case they do so, the Allahabad lawyers said, let them arrest us and send us to jail.
Come what may we are not going to succumb to such an arbitrary and biased order, said the lawyers at the district bar association meeting on Friday here.

They described the high court order as one which infringes upon their right of expression and was thus totally unconstitutional and arbitrary.

The other day a division bench of the Allahabad High Court had declared that protest strikes by lawyers cannot be sanctioned under any circumstances and would be treated as contempt of court.
The court in it’s order had even said condolence declaration would also not be allowed.
The lawyers may declare a condolence meeting after 3.30 pm. This part of the high court order has also drawn much criticism from the law community.
The district bar association said, the high court order aimed at weakening the freedom of lawyers and was ill-intentioned.
Calling upon other district bar associations they urged them to show unified strength under such circumstances that are biased and against their constitutional rights.
Lawyers are said to be integral parts of the judicial system and as such they would not come under the pressure of such unthoughtful decisions of the high court, was observed at the district bar meeting held at 2 pm on Friday, August 30.
The meeting at Allahabad District Bar, considered one of the strongest among district bar associations in the state was presided over by the president  Rajendra Prasad Misra alias Rajju, Secretary Dinesh Chandra Pandey, two most famous former bar presidents Rajendra Srivastava, and Vinod Chandra Dubey.
Prominent among others included Uma Shankar Tewari, Krishna Behari Tiwari, Sheetla Prasad Misra, Rajesh Kumar Tiwari, Bhagwat Prasad Pandey, Radha Raman Misra, Dinesh Kumar Srivastava, Kaushlesh Kumar Singh, Iftekhar Hussain, Harshad Hamid Masook and several others.
