Sanitation, Health Workers, Drivers To Be Rewarded, Insurance For Boatmen, Announces CM Yogi Aditya Nath. Lauds Residents Of Prayaggraj For Their Generosity
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, accompanied by members of his Cabinet, visited Prayagraj on Thursday to personally extend his gratitude to officials, sanitation workers, boatmen, drivers, health personnel, and police officers for their dedicated service during the 45-day-long Maha Kumbh Mela, which concluded on Wednesday.
Bonus and Insurance Benefits Announced
During his visit, the Chief Minister announced a ₹10,000 bonus for sanitation workers, health workers, police personnel, and bus drivers who were deployed for the grand religious event. Additionally, financial aid was declared for boatmen, along with an insurance policy to provide them with greater security.
Yogi Adityanath further assured that all sanitation and health workers engaged in the Maha Kumbh would be covered under a ₹5 lakh health insurance scheme, either through Ayushman Bharat or the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
In recognition of their service, he presented sanitation and health workers with gifts and insurance certificates as part of the Swachh Kumbh Fund initiative. He expressed his Cabinet’s deep appreciation for their efforts and also participated in a community meal with them as a mark of respect.
Support for Boatmen
The Chief Minister also introduced a special welfare scheme for boatmen, which includes financial support for purchasing boats and insurance cover of up to ₹5 lakh. He emphasized that all boatmen would first be registered, ensuring they receive the benefits smoothly.
During his interaction with boatmen at Triveni Complex in Mahakumbh Nagar, Yogi Adityanath acknowledged their contribution to the Maha Kumbh, drawing a historical parallel by saying, “Just as Nishadraj helped Lord Ram cross the Ganga during Treta Yuga, our boatmen are carrying forward the same tradition today.”
Prayagraj’s Transformation into a Smart City
The Chief Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing continuous guidance in ensuring the success of Maha Kumbh 2025. He stated that the combined efforts of the Central government, multiple ministries, and the Uttar Pradesh government played a vital role in seamlessly executing the mega event, which also contributed to Prayagraj’s transformation into a smart city.
Praise for Prayagraj Residents
Yogi Adityanath also lauded the people of Prayagraj for embracing Maha Kumbh wholeheartedly. He acknowledged their role in hosting langars (community meals), welcoming pilgrims, and prioritizing the event over personal challenges.
Reflecting on the scale of the gathering, he highlighted that despite a staggering 66.30 crore devotees participating in the Maha Kumbh, not a single case of kidnapping, robbery, molestation, or any other serious crime was reported. He noted, however, that critics still attempted to tarnish the event’s success.
Guinness World Record Achievements
During the event, the Chief Minister was presented with certificates from the Guinness Book of World Records for three remarkable achievements by the Prayagraj Mela Authority:
- Largest Simultaneous River-Cleaning Drive – 329 people participated in cleaning the river at multiple locations.
- Biggest Sanitation Campaign –9,000 workers took part in a large-scale cleanliness drive.
- Largest Handprint Artwork – Created by 10,102 people over eight hours.
Acknowledgment of Irrigation Department & Book Launch
Yogi Adityanath also praised the Irrigation Department, pointing out that the Sangam’s water level had remained high throughout the event, something not witnessed in many years.
Additionally, the Chief Minister unveiled a book titled The Essence of Kumbh, published by the Tourism Department, documenting the significance and grandeur of the Maha Kumbh.
Presence of Senior Leaders
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, along with Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and other ministers and officials.
