As Holi celebrations kick off across the country, a sweets shop in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, has introduced a one-of-a-kind delicacy—the ‘Golden Gujiya.’ This luxurious version of the traditional festive sweet has become a topic of fascination due to its extravagant price tag, making it one of the most expensive sweets available this Holi season in the country.

In a season when the prices of sweets usually see an upward trend, this particular sweet stands out due to its exclusivity. The shop has priced the Golden Gujiya at an astonishing Rs 50,000 per kilogram, while a single piece costs Rs 1,300. The revelation of its cost has left customers amazed, sparking curiosity and discussions among locals and visitors alike.

Speaking to ANI, the shop manager, Shivakant Chaturvedi, elaborated on the factors contributing to its premium pricing. He explained that the Golden Gujiya is not an ordinary sweet but a delicacy enriched with a special filling of high-quality dry fruits and wrapped with a layer of 24-carat edible gold. The use of such precious metal, combined with rare ingredients, justifies its hefty price tag.

“Our ‘Golden Gujiya’ is crafted with the finest dry fruits and has a delicate layering of 24-carat gold, making it truly special. It is well known that both gold and silver are consumed in certain forms, and our creation follows the tradition of using these edible metals luxuriously. This gujiya is priced at Rs 50,000 per kg, while each piece costs Rs 1,300,” Chaturvedi stated.

Gujiyas, in their traditional form, are sweet dumplings made with a crispy outer shell filled with khoya, an assortment of nuts, and dried fruits. However, what makes this version particularly extraordinary is its extravagant gold covering, which gives it a regal golden hue, making it not just a treat for the taste buds but also a feast for the eyes.

Meanwhile, another sweets shop in Lucknow made history by preparing the largest Gujiya ever recorded in India. The impressive creation earned a place in the India Book of Records, marking a remarkable achievement in the culinary world. This giant gujiya measured 25 inches in length and weighed an astounding 6 kilograms, setting a new national benchmark.

Pramil Dwivedi, the Executor of the India Book of Records, confirmed the achievement and acknowledged the uniqueness of the creation.

“This gujiya has set a new record. When the owner of the sweet shop claimed that it was the largest gujiya ever made, we conducted thorough research and found that such a large gujiya had never been prepared before in India. It has officially broken all previous records,” Dwivedi told ANI.

As Holi approaches, preparations for the grand festival are in full swing across the country. People have begun making arrangements for Holika Dahan, a ritual observed a day before the festival of colors. Markets are bustling with shoppers eager to buy colors, pichkaris (water guns), and festive accessories as excitement fills the air.

Homes are being adorned with vibrant decorations, and families are enthusiastically preparing traditional Holi sweets, including gujiyas, which remain a staple for the occasion. With Holi just around the corner, people are stocking up on their festival essentials, ensuring they have everything they need for a joyous and colorful celebration. The atmosphere is filled with festivity and anticipation as people look forward to enjoying the festival with their loved ones.
