Rashmika Mandanna will portray Maratha queen Yesubai Bhonsale in the upcoming historical drama Chhaava, alongside Vicky Kaushal. The film’s trailer was unveiled on January 22 at Mumbai’s iconic Plaza Theatre, with the cast and crew in attendance.

At the event, Rashmika expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and jokingly mentioned retiring after playing such an iconic role. She said, “This is truly an honor. As a girl from the South, playing Maharani Yesubai is the most special and privileged experience of my life. I often tell Laxman sir that after this role, I’m ready to retire. I’m not someone who usually cries, but watching this trailer left me choked up. Vicky looks divine—he’s Chhaava.”

Sharing how she was cast in the role, Rashmika said, “I was amazed when Laxman sir offered me this part. How did he even think of me for a role like this? I simply surrendered myself to the story. There’s no real reference point for characters of such majesty and impact. You just immerse yourself in their story and try to embody them.”

She further added, “For me, it was about fully trusting Laxman sir’s vision. Of course, there were rehearsals, especially for the language, but I completely let go of any doubts. I told him, ‘Sir, I’m all in. Whatever you need, I’m here to deliver.’”

Chhaava also features a stellar cast, including Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Neil Bhoopalam, Santosh Juvekar, and Pradeep Rawat. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman, and the film is produced by Maddock Films.

Scheduled for release in theatres on February 14, 2025, just days before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti on February 19, Chhaava has become one of the most eagerly anticipated films, thanks to its talented ensemble cast, particularly Rashmika Mandanna.
