LUCKNOW: The recently implemented ‘Next Gen GST Reform’, which came into effect from the first day of Sharadiya Navratri, has infused a new energy into the marketplace.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing a press conference near Universal Booksellers in Hazratganj on Wednesday, emphasized that the reduced GST rates are bringing significant relief and benefits to all sections of society—consumers, traders, and entrepreneurs alike.

He pointed out that this reform not only provides financial relief to the common people but also strengthens the market and paves the way for new opportunities in employment generation.

Being the country’s largest consumer state, Uttar Pradesh stands to gain the maximum advantage from these reforms, both in terms of trade growth and customer savings. Among the major benefits, 33 life-saving medicines have been fully exempted from GST, ensuring affordable healthcare access.

A Major Step During the Festive Season

Highlighting consumer welfare during the festival period, the Chief Minister announced that notebooks, pencils, and other essential educational materials for students are now entirely tax-free under GST. Similarly, most household necessities have either been brought under the zero tax slab or placed within the 5% bracket.

According to CM Yogi, this move has led to a surge in market consumption, which in turn has boosted production.

As a result, both traders and entrepreneurs are witnessing growth, while new avenues of employment are opening for youth. He called it a landmark decision during the festive season, providing immediate relief to families across the state.

Boost to the Economy

Chief Minister Yogi further underlined that as Uttar Pradesh is the largest consumer base in India, the GST reforms will provide a strong and sustained push to the state’s economy.

He highlighted the significant growth in tax revenue after the implementation of GST in India—from ₹7 lakh crore nationally to over ₹22 lakh crore at present.

For Uttar Pradesh specifically, the GST collection has surged from ₹49,000 crore to more than ₹1.15 lakh crore, a clear indicator of the robust economic momentum created by these reforms.

With these structural changes, CM Yogi said, both consumers and businesses are set to witness long-term benefits, creating a win-win scenario for all stakeholders in the state’s economy.
