PM Modi Chairs 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meet, Calls for Teamwork to Achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while presiding over the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on Saturday, emphasized the significance of cooperative federalism in propelling India’s developmental journey.
Stressing the importance of collaboration between the central and state governments, Modi stated that when both levels of governance function in harmony as “Team India,” no objective, however ambitious, remains unattainable.
Addressing the high-level gathering, the Prime Minister underlined the urgency of accelerating the pace of development.
“We must enhance the speed and scale of progress. If the Union government and all the states work shoulder-to-shoulder, like members of a unified team, there is no milestone that we cannot achieve,” he said, as quoted by NITI Aayog in a post on social media platform X.
The theme of this year’s Governing Council meeting was ‘Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047’, a vision that aligns with India’s long-term developmental goals and envisions a fully developed India by the centenary year of independence.
“Viksit Bharat is not just a government initiative; it is the collective dream of every Indian citizen,” Modi remarked. “And for Bharat to be Viksit, each state must be Viksit. This vision of progress and prosperity is shared by all 140 crore citizens of our country.”
The Governing Council of NITI Aayog is the apex decision-making body that brings together the leadership of the Union and state governments. It includes all Chief Ministers of states, Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories, and key Union ministers. Prime Minister Modi chairs the council.
Going further, Modi outlined a roadmap that focuses on holistic and inclusive development. “Our aim should be to transform every state, every city, every Nagar Palika, and every village into a ‘Viksit’ (developed) entity.
If we follow this direction with determination, we won’t have to wait until 2047 to see a developed India — we can achieve this much sooner,” he said.
Among the notable suggestions made during the meeting was Modi’s proposal for enhancing India’s tourism sector through targeted state-level initiatives.
“Every state should work on developing at least one world-class tourist destination. ‘One State: One Global Destination’ should be our motto.
This initiative won’t just benefit the designated site but will also boost the surrounding areas, turning nearby cities and towns into tourism hubs,” he explained.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of rapid urbanisation in India and stressed the importance of preparing cities to be future-ready.
He highlighted that the country’s urban centers must become engines of growth and innovation, with sustainability embedded into their development plans.
“Our cities must be built for the future — resilient, efficient, and inclusive. They should drive economic growth and innovation while being environmentally sustainable,” he said.
Another key area of focus in Modi’s address was the role of women in the workforce. He underscored the need to create inclusive laws and progressive policies that empower women and ensure their dignified participation in the economy.
“We must consciously work towards integrating women respectfully and meaningfully into our workforce,” he urged.
Saturday’s meeting also carried added importance as it marked the first significant engagement between the Prime Minister and the heads of various states and Union Territories following Operation Sindoor, a recent military action that brought national security issues to the forefront.
As India continues its journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, the Prime Minister’s message was clear: unity, speed, innovation, and inclusion are the guiding principles that must shape the nation’s developmental strategy.
Through strong coordination between the Centre and the states, and a shared vision for the future, India can truly become a global leader in the years to come.
