Prayagraj: With Diwali just around the corner, people planning to return home from metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai to Prayagraj are in for a tough time. Train tickets for the festive season have already been snapped up, leaving passengers struggling to secure seats.

As per official data, all major trains connecting Prayagraj to Delhi and Mumbai between October 16 and October 19 are fully booked. This has created a huge problem for travelers who had hoped to book tickets closer to the festival.

Even on the Tatkal quota, passengers are finding no availability. Waiting lists have surged, and with long queues already in place, the chances of securing a confirmed seat are minimal. The railway department has confirmed that several trains, including the Prayagraj Express, Sangam Express, Neelanchal Express, Humsafar Express, and Shiv Ganga Express, are running at full capacity.

Private airlines hike fares.
Taking advantage of the situation, private airlines have increased flight fares to Prayagraj. The fare for flights between Delhi and Prayagraj, which usually hovers around ₹4,259, has skyrocketed to over ₹8,736 for October 16. Similarly, fares for Mumbai to Prayagraj flights have also seen a steep jump, with ticket prices doubling or even tripling as the festival dates approach.

No relief in sight
On October 16, 17, and 18, almost all trains have no seats available in any category. Trains like the Duronto Express, Shiv Ganga Express, and Poorva Express are showing waiting lists of several hundred passengers. Sleeper class tickets have long been sold out, while AC coaches are also fully booked.

Two Amrit Bharat trains (newly introduced) have offered some relief, but they too are filling up fast. Tickets priced at ₹410 for the sleeper class and ₹1,625 for the AC class have already been sold in bulk.

Traveling back home this Diwali is proving to be a major challenge for people in big cities. With trains packed, flights overpriced, and limited new services available, those planning to celebrate the festival with their families in Prayagraj must prepare for difficulties or higher expenses.
