Water Crisis Sparks Clash Between BJP Leaders During UP Minister’s Visit to Mahoba

Anger over dry taps and delayed drinking water projects turned into open political tension on Friday in the Mahoba district. Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh’s visit ended in chaos.

The incident highlighted growing differences within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the handling of the water crisis.

The trouble began when the minister arrived to attend a programme organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Charkhari BJP MLA Brijbhushan Singh reportedly stopped the minister from leaving the venue.

He demanded that the minister meet village heads whose areas are still facing water shortages despite the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Soon, an argument broke out between the minister’s security staff and the MLA. The situation quickly worsened.

Supporters and guards from both sides clashed. There was shouting and confusion. Reports also spoke of a brief physical scuffle.

After the confrontation, both leaders went to the district collectorate. The atmosphere there became tense. The administration barricaded the building to stop people from entering and to prevent further trouble.

Talking to reporters, MLA Brijbhushan Singh said the issue was linked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Har Ghar Nal” scheme.

He said it is a big and important project. But many villages are still not getting water.

“People are suffering every day,” he said. “The water supply has not started properly in many places.”

The MLA also accused officials of delaying work under the Namami Gange Yojana and other water projects.

He said roads have been dug up. Pipelines are leaking. Daily life has become difficult for villagers.

“We told the minister about these serious problems and asked for quick action,” he said.

Brijbhushan Singh added that the minister had earlier promised to solve the issue within 20 days. He had also assured a visit to the affected villages and action against careless officers.

“But nothing happened,” the MLA said. “If this continues, I will keep raising my voice. This is the Prime Minister’s scheme, and it should not fail.”
