Police have arrested Rajneesh Kumar, a senior professor at PC Bagla Degree College in Hathras district, on serious charges of sexual exploitation of students. The arrest took place late Wednesday night near Subhash Chowk, within the Civil Lines police station limits in Prayagraj.

Rajneesh Kumar was apprehended by the Hathras police while he was reportedly in the city to seek anticipatory bail from the Allahabad High Court. Authorities had been tracking him since March 13, when a case was registered against him at the Hathras Gate police station.

According to official records, Rajneesh Kumar was appointed as a professor at PC Bagla Degree College in 2001. Over the years, he allegedly engaged in inappropriate conduct with multiple students, including making indecent videos and circulating them on social media platforms.

Kumar, who got married in 1996, reportedly experienced marital discord after he and his wife were unable to have children. As per police investigations, he later became involved with a young woman, whom he allegedly lured into a relationship with false promises of marriage. After inviting her to his residence, he is accused of exploiting her sexually but ultimately not following through on his commitment to wed her.

Following this incident, Kumar allegedly continued his pattern of abuse, targeting multiple young women. Authorities claim that he secretly filmed his victims without their knowledge and subsequently used these recordings to blackmail them. The victims, unaware that their interactions were being recorded, were later subjected to coercion and threats.

Hathras Superintendent of Police (SP) Chiranjeevi Nath Sinha provided details of the police operation, stating that the accused had been evading law enforcement since the case was filed against him. “Three police teams were deployed under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ashok Kumar Singh to locate and apprehend the fugitive professor,” said SP Sinha.

Despite efforts to remain undetected by frequently switching locations, Kumar’s whereabouts were ultimately traced through continuous surveillance. His mobile phone had been turned off to evade tracking, but persistent monitoring led investigators to Prayagraj, where he was arrested before he could secure anticipatory bail.

As per police findings, Kumar is accused of recording and leaking 59 explicit videos online, further intensifying the gravity of the case. The allegations against him came to light after a formal complaint was sent to the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and other key government authorities. The complaint included 12 explicit photographs, reportedly showing Kumar in compromising situations with students.

Despite the mounting allegations, Kumar had continued to hold a prominent position at PC Bagla Degree College, serving as the chief proctor. His continued tenure at the institution, even after such serious accusations, has raised concerns about administrative oversight and accountability within educational institutions.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Aligarh Range, Prabhakar Chaudhary, commended the efforts of the Hathras police in tracking down and arresting the accused. In recognition of their success, he announced a reward of ₹25,000 for the officers involved in the operation.

With Kumar now in custody, further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of his crimes and whether any additional individuals were complicit in his illicit activities. Authorities are also working to provide support and justice for the victims who were affected by his actions.
