Prayagraj Residents Raise Civic Issues During Public Grievance Programme, Demand Action on Drainage and Encroachment Problems

Prayagraj: Residents from several localities in Prayagraj voiced their long-pending civic concerns during a public grievance hearing organised by the Municipal Corporation.

Citizens submitted written complaints to the Municipal Commissioner, highlighting issues ranging from incomplete drainage projects and waterlogging to alleged encroachments and poor civic infrastructure.

One of the major concerns raised during the programme related to an unfinished drainage system in a residential area.

Residents complained that a drain was constructed only on one side of the road, while work on the opposite side was left incomplete.

As a result, wastewater from nearby houses accumulates and flows towards residential properties, creating unhygienic conditions and making daily life difficult for families living in the area.

Residents said the problem becomes even more severe during the rainy season when stagnant water collects around homes and streets.

They argued that despite repeated complaints to municipal authorities, the issue has remained unresolved, forcing them to continue living in unhealthy surroundings.

Among those who approached officials was resident Sachin Kumar, who submitted a formal complaint during the Jan Sunwai (public hearing) programme.

He urged authorities to complete the drainage project and take immediate steps to prevent sewage and wastewater from entering residential areas.

According to him, the incomplete infrastructure has become a source of constant inconvenience and poses potential health risks to residents.

Municipal officials acknowledged receiving the complaints and assured citizens that the matter would be examined.

After reviewing the grievances, the Municipal Commissioner reportedly instructed the concerned departments to investigate the issue and expedite the pending drainage work.

Officials stated that necessary measures would be taken to ensure that the project is completed without further delay.

Residents also raised concerns about alleged encroachments affecting public spaces and civic amenities.

They claimed that certain individuals had occupied land earmarked for public use, obstructing development activities and creating difficulties for the local community.

Citizens requested the administration to conduct inspections and take appropriate legal action wherever violations are found.

During the hearing, officials noted that development works worth approximately ₹48 lakh had already been approved for the area.

However, residents argued that despite the sanctioned funds, several essential projects remain incomplete or have not progressed at the expected pace.

They urged authorities to ensure transparency and timely execution of public works.

Another issue highlighted during the programme involved land-related disputes.

Residents alleged that some plots were being unlawfully occupied and that construction activities were being carried out without proper authorisation.

They called for strict monitoring and enforcement to prevent further violations and protect public property.

The public grievance programme provided citizens with an opportunity to directly interact with municipal authorities and present their concerns.

Many residents expressed hope that their complaints would now receive serious attention and lead to tangible improvements in civic infrastructure and public services.

As Prayagraj continues to expand and urbanise, residents emphasised the importance of responsive governance, timely completion of development projects, and effective maintenance of basic infrastructure. They urged municipal authorities to prioritise local issues so that communities can enjoy cleaner, safer, and more livable neighbourhoods.
