An unsuccessful attempt to blow the railway track with detonators was made near Burhanpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh at a time when a special train carrying soldiers was just about to pass. Shortly before the arrival of the train at the blast side some of the detonators went off alerting the authorities.
As a result, the incoming train was directed to stop. Police found ten detonators planted at the site to blow off the track to derail the train. This special train was made to stop at Sagphata railway station close to the place where the explosives were planted.
In Kanpur, the cylinder had been placed on the loop line going to Prempur but the driver of the train managed to spot some objects and applied emergency breaks to stop the goods train on time.
