A 16-year-old girl found unconscious in a field in Leelapur, Pratapgarh in the state died at the SRN hospital in Allahabad on Thursday.
A victim of rape, the girl had gone to the agricultural field in the area with her herd of goats to graze them.
Her family became suspicious when she failed to turn up on time and went looking for her. She was found unconscious with her hands and neck tied with a cloth.
She was rushed to the SRN hospital where she died five days later.
Sources said, the alleged rapist was traced by the police and shot in the leg when he tried to escape.
