In a tragic incident on Saturday night, a civilian named Ghulam Rasool Magray was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Kani Khas area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to police reports, armed men forcibly entered Magray’s residence and opened fire, critically injuring him. Following the attack, the gunmen fled the scene, leaving the 44-year-old Magray severely wounded.

He was immediately rushed to the District Hospital in Handwara for urgent medical attention. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Officials confirmed that Magray sustained gunshot injuries to his abdomen and wrist. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Meanwhile, in response to recent militant activities, including the deadly attack in Pahalgam, security forces have intensified their operations across the Kashmir Valley.

A sweeping crackdown is underway, with several suspected militants and sympathisers being detained. Over the past four days, security agencies have reportedly taken more than 2,000 individuals into custody and conducted raids on the homes of alleged militant supporters to curb further violence.
