Allegedly a fake doctor posing as Dr. John Camm has been arrested in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly conducting unauthorized heart surgeries that led to the deaths of at least seven patients in Madhya Pradesh. The accused, identified as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, was apprehended from Omaxe Township under the jurisdiction of the Industrial Area police station with assistance from the Madhya Pradesh police.

According to SHO Kushal Kumar Tewari, the arrest was made without any interrogation in Prayagraj, and Yadav was immediately handed over to the MP police for further investigation.

The incident traces back to a Christian missionary hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, where Yadav had secured employment in January under the false identity of “Dr. Narendra John Camm.” Within just six weeks of his employment, seven patients reportedly died following surgeries allegedly performed by him.

Damoh Superintendent of Police Shrut Kirti Somavanshi confirmed the arrest and said YYadav was being transported back to Damoh for further legal proceedings. An FIR has been filed against him for cheating, forgery, and medical negligence. Additionally, a comprehensive investigation into the deaths has been initiated by both the District Collector and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

NHRC Investigates Shocking Medical Scam

The National Human Rights Commission has taken serious note of the case. On April 7, a team led by NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo arrived in Damoh to begin a formal inquiry. Kanoongo stated, “We received a complaint that a fake doctor conducted surgeries at the missionary hospital. We were also informed that the hospital is tied to the Ayushman Bharat scheme and is receiving government funds. This is a grave matter, and our investigation is underway.”

Deepak Tiwari, an advocate and district president of the Child Welfare Committee, was among the first to raise concerns. He complained earlier this year after relatives of a deceased patient alerted him about the alleged doctor’s lack of credentials. Tiwari claimed Yadav had performed dozens of surgeries, and the actual death toll may be higher than currently reported.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the fraud and determine accountability for the preventable deaths.
