Donald Trump Congratulates PM Narendra Modi on ‘Historic’ BJP Victory, Says India Is Lucky to Have Him

US President Donald Trump has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping electoral success, describing the victory as “historic” and decisive.

The message was conveyed through the White House following a recent phone conversation between the two leaders.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai said Trump praised Modi’s leadership during the call and remarked that India was “lucky” to have him at the helm during a significant phase in the country’s political journey.

“Just last month on their phone call, President Trump expressed to Prime Minister Modi his admiration and how lucky India is to have him as its leader,” Desai told PTI while referring to the interaction between the two leaders.

The congratulatory message came after the BJP secured a massive mandate in the West Bengal Assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress government.

The BJP won 207 out of the state’s 294 assembly seats, crossing the two-thirds majority mark and achieving one of its biggest electoral breakthroughs in eastern India.

The party also registered a strong performance in Assam, where the BJP-led alliance returned to power for a third consecutive term by winning 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly.

Reacting to the results, PM Modi described the verdict as both “historic” and “unprecedented,” saying the mandate reflected growing public faith in the BJP’s vision of development and governance under the broader goal of “Viksit Bharat.”

Addressing BJP leaders and party workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Monday evening, Modi thanked voters across West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry for participating in the democratic process during a period marked by global uncertainty and tensions arising from the ongoing West Asia crisis.

“For us, democracy is not merely a political system; it is a tradition deeply rooted in our culture and values,” Modi said during his speech.

He added that the election outcome represented not only a victory for the BJP, but also a triumph for India’s Constitution, democratic institutions, and electoral processes.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s growing political footprint across the country, stating that NDA governments are now in power in more than 20 states.

Emphasising the party’s governance philosophy, Modi said the BJP remains committed to public service under the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” meaning “the citizen is like God.”

He said the increasing trust of the people in the BJP was rooted in its focus on development, governance, and welfare-oriented policies.

“Where there is BJP, there is good governance and development,” the Prime Minister said, asserting that the election results reflected the people’s confidence in the party’s leadership and governance model.
