Around six thousand inhabitants of Prayagraj have been rendered homeless and hundreds of houses have been submerged in the waters of Ganga and Yamuna which are in spate.
Incessant rains across several areas in the state have filled both these mighty rivers with so much water that the level is rising dangerously….threatening existence, particularly in the low-lying area that houses a sizeable section of the populace.
The water level was just 78 cm below the danger level on Sunday.
Most of the people living in the low-lying areas and the long kachar belt have already locked the main doors and shifted to live with relatives and friends in a bid to avoid the miserable conditions created after water enters their houses and boats start playing.
Most houses are already in the grip of floods.
They are all experienced citizens who have faced dangerous and unbearable conditions created by floods in previous years.
The administration has its limitations in reaching out to every citizen but they were making efforts to provide relief to the affected populace.
Some schools have been kept in readiness to provide shelter to people along with food packets.
Around 1200 people from 255 families have already shifted to live in relief camps.
Boats have been pressed into service to reach people still inside their homes and unwilling to leave even when danger is lurking large.
