The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh convened a virtual emergency meeting on Saturday in view of the district court lawyer’s resolve to refrain from work following a high court order which they term as unjustified and against their rights.

In view of this the  Bar Council of UP has decided to convene an emergency meeting on Sept. 3 to find a solution to the prevailing crisis.

We want to find a respectable solution to this problem, said the Bar Council President Shiv Kishore Gaur, in a press statement.

All lawyers representing different District  Bar Associations in the state have not appeared in court for the past two days in defiance of the high court order that debars them from any protest strike.
District court lawyers feel that the order was against their freedom of speech and expression and amounts to gagging their voices.
In unison, all District Bar Councils have joined hands and decided not to succumb to the pressure being exerted by the  Allahabad High Court on them.
We are prepared to go to jail and undergo any punishment but we will not abide by an unjustified order.
The high court has even said in its order that we cannot convene a condolence meeting even in case of the death of a colleague or any other court official or employee before 3.30 pm. What type of order is this, they ask.
