Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reiterated his government’s commitment to the ‘Purvodaya’ mission, a development strategy centred on accelerating the growth of eastern India.

Addressing a public gathering in Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, the Prime Minister said the eastern region of the country, which he claimed had long been associated with underdevelopment and neglect during the Congress era, is now steadily transforming into a major driver of India’s economic progress and future growth.

Emphasising the importance of the eastern states in India’s development journey, Modi said the Centre’s vision is to achieve the nation’s overall progress through the comprehensive development of eastern India.

According to him, the Purvodaya policy is helping unlock the enormous potential of the region by encouraging investments, strengthening infrastructure and creating new economic opportunities.

During the programme, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of development projects collectively worth more than Rs 47,600 crore.

The event was organised to commemorate the completion of two years of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha and served as a platform to showcase the government’s development agenda for the state.

President Droupadi Murmu, who hails from Mayurbhanj district, was also present at the event. During his visit, Prime Minister Modi travelled to Pahadpur, the village of President Murmu’s in-laws, where he offered prayers at the sacred tribal groves known as Santhali Jahera and Ho Jahera.

He also conveyed his birthday greetings to the President and acknowledged her deep roots in the region.

Praising what he described as the success of the “double-engine government”—a term used to denote the BJP being in power both at the Centre and in Odisha—Modi said the arrangement has significantly accelerated the state’s development trajectory.

He asserted that coordinated governance between the two governments has led to transformative changes in the lives of ordinary citizens through welfare programmes, increased investments, industrial expansion and the generation of employment opportunities.

The Prime Minister said that under the double-engine model of governance, administrative services are increasingly being delivered directly to citizens, reducing the need for people to move from one government office to another to resolve their grievances.

As a result, he said, the aspirations of young people, women, farmers and other sections of society are being fulfilled at a much faster pace.

Highlighting Odisha’s development momentum, Modi observed that the state is witnessing rapid progress across multiple sectors.

He said the Central and state governments are working in close coordination to fully harness Odisha’s strengths by making record investments in railway infrastructure, highways, economic corridors, ports, energy projects, semiconductor manufacturing, green energy initiatives and modern industries.

Referring to Odisha’s abundant natural resources, the Prime Minister said the government is actively converting these assets into engines of economic growth and prosperity.

He underlined efforts to attract large-scale investments that can stimulate industrialisation, generate employment and create long-term development opportunities across the state.

The Prime Minister also spoke warmly about President Droupadi Murmu’s remarkable journey from a small village in Mayurbhanj to the country’s highest constitutional office at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

He praised her humility, unwavering dedication to public service and enduring commitment to nation-building, describing her life story as an inspiration for millions of Indians.

In another significant announcement, Modi declared that Pahadpur village would be developed as a model solar village. Under the initiative, every household in the village will be equipped for solar power generation.

Drawing a parallel with Odisha’s world-famous Sun Temple at Konark, he expressed confidence that Pahadpur would emerge as a shining example of renewable energy adoption and become a model solar-powered village for the entire nation.

The Prime Minister’s decision to celebrate the second anniversary of the Odisha government in Mayurbhanj is also being viewed as politically significant.

The district, located in the northernmost part of the state and among Odisha’s largest districts, has a substantial tribal population and holds considerable electoral importance.

Mayurbhanj comprises nine Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat.

Political observers believe the BJP’s choice of venue reflects its intent to reinforce its engagement with tribal communities and highlight its development focus in the region.

The district carries particular significance for the party, as the BJP secured victories in all nine Assembly constituencies in Mayurbhanj during the 2024 Odisha Assembly elections, underlining its growing political influence in the tribal-dominated region.

पीएम मोदी ने दोहराया ‘पूर्वोदय’ का संकल्प, कहा- पूर्वी भारत अब देश की प्रगति का प्रवेश द्वार बन रहा है

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने शनिवार को अपनी सरकार के ‘पूर्वोदय’ मिशन के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता दोहराते हुए कहा कि पूर्वी भारत अब देश के विकास और आर्थिक प्रगति का नया इंजन बनकर उभर रहा है। ओडिशा के मयूरभंज जिले के रायरंगपुर में आयोजित एक जनसभा को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि पूर्वी क्षेत्र, जो कभी कांग्रेस शासन के दौरान पिछड़ेपन और उपेक्षा का प्रतीक माना जाता था, आज तेजी से विकास और नई संभावनाओं के केन्द्र में बदल रहा है।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि केंद्र सरकार का स्पष्ट दृष्टिकोण है कि भारत का समग्र विकास पूर्वी भारत के व्यापक विकास के माध्यम से ही संभव है। उनके अनुसार, ‘पूर्वोदय’ नीति पूर्वी राज्यों की अपार संभावनाओं को सामने लाने, निवेश आकर्षित करने, बुनियादी ढांचे को मजबूत बनाने और नए आर्थिक अवसर पैदा करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा रही है।

कार्यक्रम के दौरान प्रधानमंत्री ने 47,600 करोड़ रुपये से अधिक की विभिन्न विकास परियोजनाओं का उद्घाटन और शिलान्यास किया। यह आयोजन ओडिशा में भारतीय जनता पार्टी सरकार के दो वर्ष पूरे होने के उपलक्ष्य में आयोजित किया गया था और राज्य के विकास एजेंडे को प्रदर्शित करने का एक महत्वपूर्ण मंच भी बना।

इस अवसर पर राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू, जो स्वयं मयूरभंज जिले से संबंध रखती हैं, भी मौजूद थीं। प्रधानमंत्री ने राष्ट्रपति के ससुराल गांव पहाड़पुर का दौरा किया और संथाली जाहेरा तथा हो जाहेरा नामक पवित्र आदिवासी उपवनों में पूजा-अर्चना की। उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति को जन्मदिन की शुभकामनाएं भी दीं और क्षेत्र से उनके गहरे जुड़ाव की सराहना की।

प्रधानमंत्री ने केंद्र और ओडिशा में भाजपा की सरकार को ‘डबल इंजन सरकार’ बताते हुए कहा कि इस व्यवस्था ने राज्य के विकास को नई गति प्रदान की है। उन्होंने कहा कि दोनों सरकारों के बीच समन्वित प्रयासों से कल्याणकारी योजनाओं, निवेश, औद्योगिक विस्तार और रोजगार के अवसरों के माध्यम से आम नागरिकों के जीवन में सकारात्मक परिवर्तन आया है।

उन्होंने कहा कि डबल इंजन सरकार के तहत शासन को सीधे लोगों तक पहुंचाया जा रहा है, जिससे नागरिकों को अपनी समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए सरकारी कार्यालयों के चक्कर नहीं लगाने पड़ रहे हैं। इसके परिणामस्वरूप युवाओं, महिलाओं, किसानों और आम लोगों की आकांक्षाएं तेजी से पूरी हो रही हैं।

प्रधानमंत्री ने कहा कि ओडिशा आज अनेक क्षेत्रों में तेज गति से प्रगति कर रहा है। केंद्र और राज्य सरकार मिलकर रेलवे अवसंरचना, राजमार्गों, आर्थिक गलियारों, बंदरगाहों, ऊर्जा परियोजनाओं, सेमीकंडक्टर निर्माण, हरित ऊर्जा और आधुनिक उद्योगों में रिकॉर्ड निवेश के जरिए राज्य की ताकत को पूरी तरह विकसित करने का प्रयास कर रही हैं।

ओडिशा के समृद्ध प्राकृतिक संसाधनों का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि सरकार इन संसाधनों को विकास और समृद्धि के अवसरों में परिवर्तित कर रही है। उन्होंने राज्य में बड़े पैमाने पर निवेश आकर्षित करने के प्रयासों का जिक्र किया, जिससे औद्योगिक विकास को गति मिलेगी, रोजगार का सृजन होगा और दीर्घकालिक आर्थिक अवसर पैदा होंगे।

प्रधानमंत्री ने राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू की यात्रा की भी सराहना की और कहा कि मयूरभंज के एक छोटे से गांव से देश के सर्वोच्च संवैधानिक पद तक पहुंचना उनकी विनम्रता, जनसेवा के प्रति समर्पण और राष्ट्र निर्माण के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता का प्रमाण है। उन्होंने राष्ट्रपति के जीवन को करोड़ों भारतीयों के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत बताया।

प्रधानमंत्री ने यह भी घोषणा की कि पहाड़पुर गांव को एक आदर्श सौर ग्राम के रूप में विकसित किया जाएगा। इस योजना के तहत गांव के प्रत्येक घर में सौर ऊर्जा उत्पादन की व्यवस्था की जाएगी। ओडिशा के प्रसिद्ध कोणार्क सूर्य मंदिर का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने विश्वास जताया कि पहाड़पुर देश के लिए नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा के उपयोग का एक उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण बनकर उभरेगा।

मयूरभंज में ओडिशा सरकार की दूसरी वर्षगांठ का आयोजन करना राजनीतिक रूप से भी महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है। राज्य के उत्तरी हिस्से में स्थित यह जिला ओडिशा के सबसे बड़े और आदिवासी बहुल जिलों में से एक है। यहां नौ विधानसभा सीटें और एक लोकसभा सीट है।

राजनीतिक विश्लेषकों का मानना है कि भाजपा द्वारा इस जिले को समारोह के लिए चुनना आदिवासी समुदायों के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता और क्षेत्र के विकास पर विशेष ध्यान देने का स्पष्ट संकेत है। वर्ष 2024 के विधानसभा चुनावों में भाजपा ने मयूरभंज जिले की सभी नौ विधानसभा सीटों पर जीत दर्ज की थी, जिसने इस आदिवासी बहुल क्षेत्र में पार्टी के बढ़ते राजनीतिक प्रभाव को रेखांकित किया।
