Pratapgarh Shock: 18-Year-Old Girl gang raped and killed by Acquaintances, Body Hung to Mislead Investigation

A horrifying crime from Pratapgarh has left residents shaken, and a family devastated, as the story of an 18-year-old girl’s final hours unfolds with chilling details.

According to police, the young woman was allegedly lured out of her home late Saturday night by a teenage boy she knew.

Trusting him, she walked nearly 450 meters to a nearby field in the Manikpur area. There, she was reportedly raped by him and his friend.

When she resisted and cried out for help, the two minors overpowered her, pinned her to the ground, and suffocated her by covering her mouth.

In an apparent attempt to conceal the crime, the accused dragged her body about 50 meters to a mango orchard.

Using cloth taken from a nearby religious flag, they tightened it around her neck and hung her from a tree, trying to stage the murder as a suicide before fleeing the scene.

The crime came to light early Sunday morning, around 4:30 am, when her family discovered her body hanging from the tree.

The sight left them in shock and disbelief. Police teams from nearby stations, along with Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar, reached the spot soon after.

Forensic experts collected crucial evidence as the investigation began.

Initially, the case was registered against unknown persons. However, a breakthrough came through the victim’s father’s mobile phone records.

Investigators found that the girl had been in frequent contact with one of the accused on the night of the incident, speaking nearly ten times between 9:15 pm and 10:47 pm.

This led to the identification and detention of the primary suspect, who later admitted to his involvement. His accomplice remains at large.

The postmortem report revealed multiple injuries across the victim’s body, including bite marks and scratches, indicating a violent struggle while she was being allegedly raped.

Preliminary findings have confirmed sexual assault, and viscera samples have been preserved for further examination.

Police also learned that the girl had attempted to step out earlier that night but was stopped by her sister-in-law.

Around midnight, she managed to leave quietly, unaware of the danger awaiting her.

Beyond the brutality of the crime lies a deeply human loss.

The young woman had recently passed her Class 12 examinations with 75% marks and dreamed of pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree.

Her father, an e-rickshaw driver, along with her brothers, had been working hard to support her education and aspirations.

Her family is now inconsolable. Her brothers broke down upon seeing her body, while her parents remain engulfed in grief.

Two of her brothers, who work in Mumbai, are on their way home, and the family has postponed her final rites until their arrival.

This tragedy has not only shattered a family but also stirred anguish and concern across the region.

Police have assured that strict action will be taken, and efforts are underway to arrest the second accused.

The case stands as a painful reminder of how trust can be exploited—and how urgently justice must follow.
