In a shocking incident in Prayagraj on Saturday afternoon, a local advocate sustained critical injuries after being shot by unidentified bike-borne assailants near Dauli Canal in the Soraon area.

The attack took place while the advocate, identified as Man Singh, a resident of Kingriya Pura village, was on his way to the district court on his motorcycle.

According to eyewitnesses present at the scene, the two assailants, also on a motorcycle, intercepted Man Singh and forced him to stop.

Without much warning, they opened fire at him. The gunshots caused Singh to fall off his bike, and he was seen writhing in excruciating pain on the road for nearly 20 minutes, as per several bystanders who gathered around him.

Despite the severe pain and trauma, Singh managed to speak to the people who had come to his aid. Before he lost consciousness, he reportedly named the attackers, alleging that one of them was his neighbour, Anil, who is also a practicing lawyer.

Singh revealed that there had been an ongoing dispute between them related to a piece of land, which had led to frequent tensions in the recent past.

An eyewitness recorded a 33-second video clip of the scene, which later surfaced on local social media platforms. In the video, Man Singh is seen lying on the ground, wearing a white shirt and black trousers, with his helmet still on.

As he struggled to remain conscious, a member of the crowd asked him for the password to unlock his mobile phone. Upon receiving the password, the person used the phone to contact Singh’s family and inform them of the incident.

The Soraon police team reached the scene soon after receiving a report around 12:30 PM that a man had been shot on the highway.

The police team acted swiftly and transported the injured advocate to Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital in Prayagraj for urgent medical attention.

Medical experts at the hospital confirmed that Singh had suffered two gunshot wounds, one of which had lodged itself in his chest, causing life-threatening internal damage.

Dr. Badri Vishal Singh, a senior physician at SRN Hospital, informed the media that Man Singh had been taken directly to the operating theatre for emergency surgery.

He described the advocate’s condition as extremely critical and stressed that the next 24 hours would be crucial in determining his chances of survival.

Meanwhile, senior police officials have taken cognizance of the attack. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the Ganganagar zone, Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, confirmed the sequence of events during a press briefing.

He said that the local police were alerted about the shooting incident around midday, and upon arriving at the scene, discovered that the victim was an advocate.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack stemmed from a personal enmity between the victim and his neighbour over a longstanding land dispute,” said DCP Gunawat.

“The victim was able to identify the attackers before losing consciousness, and we have initiated further inquiries based on that information.”

He also mentioned that a formal First Information Report (FIR) would be registered once the victim’s family submitted an official complaint.

The police have already begun efforts to trace and apprehend the suspects, and security has been tightened in the area to prevent any escalation of tension within the village.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the legal community and residents alike, highlighting once again the increasing number of disputes turning violent in rural and semi-urban parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter and have assured that justice will be delivered swiftly.
