Prayagraj Horror: Father Arrested for Brutal Murder of 19-Year-Old Son in Kareli

Prayagraj: In a deeply disturbing incident from Kareli in Prayagraj, a father has been arrested for allegedly killing his 19-year-old son in the early hours of Saturday.

The crime, which unfolded inside a small rented home in the area’s bustling “Chaat Wali Gali,” has left the neighborhood shaken.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police, the accused—identified as Girish Chandra, also known as Pappu Jaiswal—was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

He is suspected of attacking his son, Priyanshu, while the young man was asleep, repeatedly striking his head and face with a heavy object.

Police officials say the family originally hails from Chaka in Naini but had been living in Kareli for some time. Priyanshu, the eldest of three brothers, earned a living by running a vegetable cart.

Investigators revealed that the father struggled with substance abuse and frequently argued with his wife, Ranjana, often accusing her of infidelity.

Over time, those suspicions extended to his son as well.

On Friday night, another argument broke out between the couple. Following the altercation, Priyanshu escorted his mother to her parental home in Mirapur, a decision that reportedly angered the father further.

Later that night, Priyanshu returned home and went to sleep in a ground-floor room, while his younger brothers—13-year-old Aryan and 10-year-old Anshu—slept on the terrace.

Sometime before dawn, police believe the father carried out the attack. After the assault, he allegedly locked the room from the outside and fled. He also secured the staircase door, preventing the younger boys from coming downstairs.

The horrifying discovery came in the morning.

When the two younger brothers woke up and found the staircase door locked, they looked down into the courtyard and noticed blood seeping out from beneath the room door. Alarmed, they raised a cry for help.

Neighbors quickly gathered and helped bring the boys down from the terrace. Once outside, they contacted their mother, who rushed back home with relatives and informed the police.

When officers arrived, they broke open the lock and entered the room, where they found Priyanshu’s body lying in a pool of blood.

Senior officers, including Manish Kumar Shandilya, visited the scene to oversee the initial investigation.

While there has been speculation locally about the exact weapon used—ranging from a weighing scale weight to a kitchen appliance—police have not yet confirmed the object involved.

Speaking on the case, Nikita Srivastava said that the murder appears to be rooted in prolonged domestic conflict and the father’s suspicions regarding his wife and son.

A case has been registered, and legal proceedings are now underway.

What remains is a grieving family, a stunned neighborhood, and a tragedy that has raised difficult questions about unchecked suspicion, addiction, and violence within the home.
