Prayagraj Tensions Escalate After Woman Lawyer’s Death; Doctors and Lawyers Stage Protests Over Arrest

Prayagraj: The death of advocate Jagriti Shukla has triggered widespread unrest in Prayagraj, with both the legal and medical communities holding demonstrations and accusing each other of wrongdoing.

The situation intensified after the arrest of a junior doctor in connection with the case, leading to protests at SRN Hospital and growing demands for a fair investigation.

A day after Jagriti Shukla’s funeral, the city witnessed renewed agitation.

While lawyers continued their protest seeking strict action against those responsible for her death, junior doctors at SRN Hospital staged a sit-in demonstration against the arrest of one of their colleagues.

The dispute has deepened tensions between the two professional groups, with neither side willing to back down.

According to reports, Jagriti Shukla, a resident of Lalpur Khurd, was allegedly hit by a car near the Moti Lal Nehru Medical College area on May 20.

She sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. After battling for her life for several days, she passed away, sparking outrage among members of the legal fraternity.

Lawyers alleged that the victim did not receive proper medical attention during her treatment and accused hospital staff of negligence.

They demanded accountability and sought action against doctors allegedly linked to the incident.

Following continuous pressure from the legal community, police registered a case and arrested junior doctor Mohit Narayan.

The arrest prompted a strong reaction from doctors. Junior doctors at SRN Hospital launched a protest inside the trauma centre, claiming that their colleague had been unfairly targeted.

They argued that the allegations against him were baseless and maintained that medical staff had provided treatment according to established procedures.

Doctors also expressed concerns over what they described as increasing pressure and intimidation from lawyers.

Protesters carried placards and raised slogans, insisting that hospitals should remain places of healing rather than becoming centres of conflict. They warned that repeated confrontations could negatively affect healthcare services and patient care.

Meanwhile, lawyers continued their demonstrations across the city, demanding swift legal action against all accused persons.

Members of the bar association gathered at various locations, urging authorities to ensure justice for the deceased advocate.

They also called for transparency in the investigation and stricter accountability from those found responsible.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and that evidence is being examined carefully.

Authorities have appealed to both sides to maintain peace and cooperate with the legal process while the case proceeds.

The incident has drawn significant public attention in Prayagraj, highlighting concerns about road safety, medical accountability, and the growing friction between the city’s legal and healthcare communities.

As protests continue, many residents are hoping for a fair resolution that delivers justice while restoring normalcy.
