Six years to the day, another young life lost; family draws painful parallels and demands probe into ‘severe industry pressure’

Mumbai: The date has become a grim marker. Six years after a nation mourned a Bollywood star, the same calendar page has claimed another young life from the entertainment world.

Television actor Sanchita Ugale, known for her work in popular shows such as ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’, died by suicide on 14 June 2026. She was 22 years old.

Her body was discovered at her residence in Nalasopara, a suburb of Maharashtra’s Palghar district.

The Achole Police have registered an Accidental Death Report and confirmed that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

Preliminary statements from her father indicate that the family does not suspect any foul play. Nevertheless, authorities have stated that all possible angles remain under investigation.

The tragedy acquired an even more unsettling dimension when the date came into focus. Sanchita’s death occurred exactly six years after actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on 14 June 2020.

That case had sparked a nationwide debate on nepotism, mental health, and the often invisible pressures faced by performers in the Indian entertainment industry.

Speaking to media outlets, Sanchita’s brother, Akash Satish Ugale, drew a direct and painful parallel.

He alleged that both actors were victims of what he called ‘severe industry pressure’, arguing that the pattern of circumstances leading to their deaths bore troubling similarities.

He has since urged state and national leaders to order an in-depth investigation into his sister’s demise.

A digital trail has added to the public unease. In the hours or days preceding her death, Sanchita’s final Instagram activity included a reel dedicated to Sushant Singh Rajput.

The video carried the text: “It’s again 14 June”. The post, now widely circulated on social media, has been interpreted by many as a silent cry for attention—or perhaps a haunting farewell note left in plain sight.

Sanchita Ugale had been steadily carving a place for herself in the competitive world of television. Her performances on ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ and ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’ had earned her a modest but loyal following.

Friends and colleagues who worked with her describe her as a quiet, dedicated professional. None had publicly spoken of any visible signs of distress.

Yet the family’s allegations reopen a wound that many believed had scarred over.

The Sushant Singh Rajput case had led to a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry and months of media frenzy, but tangible changes in industry practices have remained elusive.

For young actors navigating an ecosystem of insecurity, long hours, and unspoken hierarchies, the pressure often builds in silence.

The police investigation continues. No arrests have been made, and the family has filed no formal complaint at this stage. But the questions raised by Akash Satish Ugale are unlikely to fade quickly.

When the same date marks two similar tragedies, across different mediums and generations, the industry may be forced to look inward once again.

For now, the lights have dimmed on a 22-year-old performer. Her brother’s plea hangs in the air, unanswered. And the date—14 June—has gained another layer of sorrow.

उनका शव महाराष्ट्र के पालघर जिले के उपनगर नालासोपारा में उनके आवास से बरामद हुआ। आचोले पुलिस ने एक एक्सीडेंटल डेथ रिपोर्ट दर्ज कर ली है और पुष्टि की है कि घटनास्थल से कोई सुसाइड नोट नहीं मिला है। उनके पिता के बयानों के अनुसार, परिवार को किसी गड़बड़ी का शक नहीं है। फिर भी, अधिकारियों ने कहा है कि सभी संभावित पहलुओं की जांच जारी है।

इस त्रासदी ने और भी चौंकाने वाला आयाम तब ग्रहण किया जब तारीख पर ध्यान गया। संचिता की मौत ठीक उसी दिन हुई, जब छह साल पहले 14 जून 2020 को अभिनेता सुशांत सिंह राजपूत का शव उनके बांद्रा स्थित अपार्टमेंट से मिला था। उस मामले ने भारतीय मनोरंजन उद्योग में पक्षपात, मानसिक स्वास्थ्य और कलाकारों पर अक्सर अदृश्य रहने वाले दबावों पर देशव्यापी बहस छेड़ दी थी।

संचिता के भाई आकाश सतीश उगले ने मीडिया से बात करते हुए एक सीधा और पीड़ादायक समानांतर खींचा। उन्होंने आरोप लगाया कि दोनों कलाकार ‘गंभीर इंडस्ट्री दबाव’ के शिकार थे और उनकी मौतों तक पहुंचाने वाली परिस्थितियाँ खतरनाक रूप से मिलती-जुलती थीं। उन्होंने राज्य और राष्ट्रीय नेताओं से अपनी बहन की मौत की गहन जांच कराने की मांग की है।

एक डिजिटल निशान ने सार्वजनिक बेचैनी को और बढ़ा दिया है। अपनी मौत से कुछ घंटे या दिन पहले, संचिता की आखिरी इंस्टाग्राम गतिविधि में सुशांत सिंह राजपूत को समर्पित एक रील शामिल थी। उस वीडियो पर लिखा था: “फिर से 14 जून आ गया। यह पोस्ट, जो अब सोशल मीडिया पर व्यापक रूप से वायरल हो चुकी है, कई लोगों द्वारा मदद की चुपचाप चीख या शायद खुले में छोड़ा गया एक भयावह विदाई संदेश माना जा रहा है।

पुलिस जांच जारी है। अभी तक कोई गिरफ्तारी नहीं हुई है, और परिवार द्वारा इस स्तर पर कोई औपचारिक शिकायत दर्ज नहीं कराई गई है। लेकिन आकाश सतीश उगले द्वारा उठाए गए सवाल जल्दी शांत होने वाले नहीं हैं। जब एक ही तारीख दो समान त्रासदियों को चिह्नित करती है, अलग-अलग माध्यमों और पीढ़ियों में, तो उद्योग को एक बार फिर आत्मनिरीक्षण करने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ सकता है।
