A senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, currently serving as an Inspector-General (IG) in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has come under intense scrutiny for allegedly misappropriating funds allocated for counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The officer is accused of diverting a substantial amount of money into the stock market, raising serious concerns about financial oversight within the country’s largest paramilitary force.

According to sources, the officer allegedly siphoned off nearly ₹4 crore, which was originally intended to enhance the effectiveness of security measures in the conflict-prone region.

Investigators believe that the funds were channeled into the stock market and mutual fund investments through a complex web of shell companies, making it difficult to trace the transactions directly back to the accused.

The issue has now garnered attention at the highest levels within the CRPF, with senior officials actively examining the allegations. “The matter has reached the top brass of the CRPF and is being looked into,” confirmed a senior officer based at the CRPF headquarters in Delhi on Sunday.

The period under investigation spans the years 2018 and 2019, during which time the accused officer was stationed in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources indicate that an extensive review of financial records is currently underway, focusing on stock market transactions, mutual fund investments, and the corporate structures of the shell companies suspected to have been used for laundering the misappropriated funds.

These revelations have raised pressing concerns regarding the oversight mechanisms in place within the CRPF, which plays a crucial role in maintaining internal security and combating terrorism in some of India’s most sensitive regions.

The alleged misuse of funds specifically allocated for anti-terror operations has sparked a debate on the need for more stringent monitoring and financial accountability in security-related expenditures.

In light of these allegations, there is an urgent call for a comprehensive review of financial regulations and audit mechanisms within paramilitary forces.

Experts stress that greater transparency and stricter financial controls are necessary to prevent similar instances of fund diversion in the future.

As the investigation progresses, further details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the extent of financial mismanagement and the potential involvement of additional individuals or entities in the scheme.
