AAP leader announces house tax waiver for Delhi residents
Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, Sanjay Singh, made a significant announcement on Monday regarding a major tax relief initiative introduced by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
The announcement, which is expected to bring considerable financial relief to property owners across the national capital, pertains to a comprehensive house tax waiver scheme.
During a press conference held on Monday, Singh, along with MCD Mayor Mahesh Khinchi, Deputy Mayor Ravinder Bhardwaj, and Leader of the House Mukesh Goel, detailed the specifics of the new policy.
As per the announcement, homeowners who fully pay their house tax dues for the financial year 2024-25 will be granted a complete waiver on all their previous pending house tax liabilities.
This move is aimed at encouraging property owners to clear their dues while also alleviating the financial burden of accumulated taxes.
Further expanding on the benefits of the scheme, the leaders outlined that different categories of property owners would receive varying degrees of tax relief.
Homeowners possessing properties ranging in size from 100 to 500 square yards will be entitled to a 50 percent waiver on their house tax dues.
Additionally, individuals who own properties measuring under 100 square yards will be entirely exempt from paying house tax, providing significant financial relief to those with smaller properties.
The relief measures also extend to commercial properties located in designated rehabilitation areas. Owners of such properties will now benefit from tax exemptions, easing the financial strain on businesses and commercial establishments operating in these regions.
Moreover, residents of 1,300 housing apartments, who had previously been excluded from any form of tax concession, will now receive a 25 percent reduction in their house tax dues.
Emphasizing the importance of this decision, MCD Mayor Mahesh Khinchi stated that this initiative is in line with the AAP government’s commitment to public welfare and pro-people governance.
He highlighted that this house tax waiver is another example of the AAP administration fulfilling its electoral promises and working toward easing financial hardships faced by the citizens of Delhi.
“What AAP promised, we have delivered. Our government remains dedicated to the welfare of the people. In addition to this tax waiver initiative, we have also regularized the employment of 12,000 MCD workers by confirming them as permanent employees.
We are taking concrete steps toward improving civic governance and delivering on our commitments. This decision will be officially implemented during the upcoming MCD House meeting scheduled for the 25th of this month,” Khinchi stated during the press conference.
The announcement of these tax relief measures has been met with widespread appreciation, particularly among homeowners and business owners who have long-awaited concessions to ease their financial burdens.
As the MCD prepares to formalize the decision in its upcoming meeting, property owners across Delhi are expected to benefit significantly from the newly introduced policy.
