Trump Hails India-Pakistan Ceasefire, China Reaffirms Support for Pakistan
In the aftermath of a significant ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a detailed statement lauding the leadership of both nations.
His remarks, made in characteristically emphatic fashion, praised the decision to halt escalating tensions, which he said could have otherwise resulted in devastating consequences for millions of people in the region.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership shown by both India and Pakistan,” Trump said in a formal statement.
“Their courage, wisdom, and determination to recognize the need to end ongoing aggression have potentially prevented immense tragedy.
Had the hostility continued, the resulting violence could have led to widespread destruction and the loss of countless innocent lives.”
Trump emphasized the importance of diplomatic restraint and highlighted the potential human cost that was avoided due to the ceasefire.
He added, “Millions of good, innocent people could have died had this course of peace not been chosen. Instead, through brave and farsighted leadership, both nations have chosen a path that enhances their legacy and global standing.”
The former U.S. president also acknowledged the role of the United States in supporting the diplomatic efforts that led to the de-escalation, expressing satisfaction that the U.S. could play a constructive role.
“I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” he said.
In an unexpected announcement, Trump added that the United States intends to expand its economic engagement with both India and Pakistan.
“While not even discussed in the context of this ceasefire, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations,” he stated.
Trump further expressed a desire to contribute to resolving long-standing issues in the region, particularly the Kashmir dispute.
“Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir,” he noted, referencing the protracted and deeply sensitive nature of the territorial conflict.
He concluded his message with a congratulatory tone, stating, “God bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!”
CHINA COMMITTED TO PAKISTAN
Meanwhile, in a parallel diplomatic development, China reiterated its strong support for Pakistan amidst the regional realignment.
On Saturday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed Beijing’s continued commitment to Pakistan’s core interests during a phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar.
The conversation was confirmed through an official statement released by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Minister Wang assured his Pakistani counterpart that China remains steadfast in its support of Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national independence.
He emphasized that China values its strategic partnership with Pakistan and will continue to back the country in safeguarding its national interests in the face of evolving geopolitical challenges.
The developments underscore a complex regional dynamic where diplomacy, strategic interests, and international relations intersect.
While the ceasefire marks a positive step towards stability, the statements from global powers also highlight the broader geopolitical stakes in South Asia, particularly regarding the enduring Kashmir conflict and regional alignments involving the U.S., China, India, and Pakistan.
