Vat Savitri Vrat Celebrated with Devotion Across Prayagraj, Women Pray for Husbands’ Long Life
The holy occasion of Vat Savitri Vrat was observed with deep faith and traditional fervour across Prayagraj on Saturday as married women performed special rituals and prayers for the long life, health, and prosperity of their husbands.
The festival, observed on the Amavasya of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, brought an atmosphere of devotion and celebration to homes and temples throughout the city.
From early morning, women dressed in traditional attire gathered near banyan trees located in their neighbourhoods to perform the sacred rituals collectively.
Carrying beautifully decorated Puja thalis filled with offerings, the devotees participated in the ceremonies with great enthusiasm and reverence.
The banyan tree, considered highly sacred in Hindu tradition, was worshipped as a symbol of longevity and marital bliss.
As part of the rituals, women offered fruits, raw milk, sweets, soaked gram, sacred rice, vermilion, sandalwood paste, and other traditional items to the Vat tree.
They also tied sacred threads around the trunk while performing 108 circumambulations, symbolising unwavering faith and the strengthening of marital bonds.
The rituals reflected both spiritual devotion and cultural tradition that have been passed down through generations.
After completing the Prayers, the women listened to the legendary story of Savitri and Satyavan, which forms the spiritual foundation of the festival.
The tale celebrates the devotion, courage, and determination of Savitri, who, according to Hindu mythology, brought her husband Satyavan back from the hands of death through her dedication and wisdom.
The celebrations continued with women exchanging greetings and distributing prasad among one another, creating a warm and festive community atmosphere.
Temples across Prayagraj witnessed heavy footfall throughout the day as devotees gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings.
Special prayers and rituals were held at prominent temples, including Alop Shankari Devi Temple, Kalyani Devi Temple, and Lalita Devi Temple, where women prayed for the happiness and well-being of their families.
Devotees also gathered around banyan trees located in several areas of the city, including Parade Ground, Triveni Bandh, Sangam area, Daraganj, Allapur, Bairahana, Gau Ghat, Teliarganj, Rajapur, Salori, Pritam Nagar, Rambagh, and Kydganj.
Through prayers and rituals, women sought blessings for a peaceful family life, enduring relationships, and good health for their loved ones.
