Warehouse caves in three dead 18 injured in Kolkata
At least three people lost their lives, and 18 others sustained injuries after the roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday.
Rescue teams, including personnel from the Army, were pressed into service as authorities launched a massive operation to search for those trapped beneath the debris.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited the accident site and said the injured had been admitted to Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital for treatment.
He added that around 18 workers were still feared trapped under the rubble and that the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), disaster management teams and police personnel were carrying out intensive rescue efforts.
According to preliminary reports, nearly 50 to 60 labourers were working at the site when the accident occurred.
The roof reportedly gave way while concrete casting work was in progress, causing a large section of the structure to collapse.
Rescue operations began immediately after the incident. So far, 13 workers have been pulled out of the debris and shifted to SSKM Hospital. Along with the Army, teams from the disaster management department and Kolkata Police remain deployed at the site.
Sports Minister Indranil Khan, who is supervising the rescue operation, said saving the trapped workers was the administration’s foremost priority.
He noted that the disaster management department, fire services and Army personnel had all been mobilised to expedite the rescue mission.

मुख्यमंत्री सुवेंदु अधिकारी घटनास्थल पर पहुंचे और बताया कि घायलों को इलाज के लिए कोलकाता के एसएसकेएम अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। उन्होंने कहा कि अभी भी करीब 18 लोगों के मलबे में फंसे होने की आशंका है और उन्हें सुरक्षित बाहर निकालने के लिए सेना, राष्ट्रीय आपदा मोचन बल (एनडीआरएफ), आपदा प्रबंधन विभाग और पुलिस की टीमें लगातार राहत कार्य में जुटी हुई हैं।
प्रारंभिक जानकारी के अनुसार, हादसे के समय निर्माण स्थल पर लगभग 50 से 60 मजदूर काम कर रहे थे। बताया जा रहा है कि कंक्रीट डालने का काम चल रहा था, तभी गोदाम की छत अचानक भरभराकर गिर गई और भारी मात्रा में मलबा फैल गया।
घटना के तुरंत बाद बचाव अभियान शुरू कर दिया गया। अब तक 13 लोगों को मलबे से निकालकर एसएसकेएम अस्पताल पहुंचाया गया है। सेना के साथ-साथ आपदा प्रबंधन विभाग और कोलकाता पुलिस की टीमें भी मौके पर तैनात हैं।
घटनास्थल पर मौजूद खेल मंत्री इंद्रनील खान ने कहा कि प्रशासन की सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता मलबे में फंसे मजदूरों को सुरक्षित निकालकर उनकी जान बचाना है। उन्होंने बताया कि बचाव कार्य में तेजी लाने के लिए आपदा प्रबंधन विभाग, अग्निशमन सेवा और सेना के जवानों को भी लगाया गया है।
