22-Hour Power Outage Leaves Prayagraj Residents Miserable Amid Scorching Heat
Prayagraj: Prolonged power cuts triggered by faults, cable damage and repeated tripping severely disrupted normal life in several parts of Prayagraj, leaving residents struggling to cope with the intense summer heat.
Consumers faced continuous inconvenience as electricity supply remained erratic for long hours across multiple localities.
According to residents, power disruptions began in different areas on Wednesday afternoon and continued well into Thursday night.
The persistent outages affected households, businesses and daily routines, causing widespread frustration among consumers already grappling with soaring temperatures.
The worst-hit area was the Sewaid Mandi locality, where a fault developed in an underground power cable on Wednesday night, resulting in a complete breakdown of electricity supply around 9 pm.
Due to the seriousness of the fault, the entire neighbourhood remained without power for nearly 22 hours.
Electricity department teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the underground cable failure.
Repair work continued uninterrupted throughout Thursday afternoon, with engineers replacing the damaged cable and carrying out restoration work. Supply was eventually restored at around 7 pm on Thursday after extensive repairs.
Residents said the prolonged blackout turned daily life into a nightmare. With temperatures remaining extremely high, many people were forced to spend an uncomfortable night without fans, coolers or air-conditioners.
The outage also disrupted essential services, including water supply, as electric motors could not be operated.
Residents said that the nearly day-long power disruption affected every aspect of life. Mobile phones could not be charged, cooling appliances remained shut, and many people were unable to complete important tasks because of the lack of electricity.
Power distribution officials stated that the outage was caused by a fault in the underground cable. They added that repair teams worked continuously to replace the damaged section and restore supply as quickly as possible.
Apart from Sewait Mandi, electricity supply was also affected in Sahab Malaka, Azad Nagar, Frozen Hotel area and nearby localities.
Power interruptions began around 4 pm and repair work continued until late at night. Residents in these areas also reported severe inconvenience due to the prolonged disruption and oppressive weather conditions.
Jodhi Rishi Diwakar, another resident, said that the extended outages made it extremely difficult for families to manage routine household activities.
With both electricity and water supplies affected, many residents were left exhausted and distressed throughout the day.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the city’s power infrastructure during peak summer demand, with residents urging authorities to take preventive measures to avoid such prolonged outages in the future.
