Water Crisis Deepens in Prayagraj’s Juhi Colony, 200 Households Left Without Supply for Three Days
Prayagraj: Residents of Juhi Colony on Pyare Road have been grappling with a severe drinking water crisis for the past three days after a major tubewell developed a technical fault.
The disruption has affected water supply to more than 200 households, forcing families to struggle for even their basic daily needs.
According to residents, officials had initially assured them that the problem would be resolved within 24 hours.
However, despite the passage of three days, the damaged tubewell screen has not been replaced, leaving the water supply network inoperative and residents increasingly frustrated.
The Jal Kal Department has now sought an additional two days to complete the repair work.
Officials stated that the screen installed nearly 450 feet below the ground had been damaged, and restoring the system has proved to be more complicated than initially anticipated. Work to install a new screen is currently underway.
As the disruption continues amid intense summer temperatures, everyday life in the locality has been severely affected.
Residents are being forced to arrange water from outside sources, while many have also had to purchase water to meet their household requirements.
Meraj Sheikh, a resident of Juhi Colony, said that the area has been without water for three consecutive days.
With temperatures soaring, families are finding it increasingly difficult to secure drinking water and manage routine domestic chores.
Salim, a resident of Jaidka Colony, expressed disappointment over the delay, saying that the department had promised restoration within a day but is now asking for two more days.
He noted that people are being compelled to spend money on buying water because there is no alternative source available.
Gopal Srivastava, who lives in the Muna Bhusa Wali Gali area, said that the shortage has become particularly distressing during the peak of summer. Residents are facing immense hardship as they struggle to obtain clean drinking water.
The crisis is not limited to Juhi Colony alone. Residents of Jaidka Colony, Muna Bhusa Wali Gali, Bale Wali Gali and Pintu Chakki Wali Gali are also facing similar difficulties due to the interruption in water supply.
Providing an update on the situation, Ashish Yadav of the Jal Kal Department said that the tubewell screen located about 450 feet underground had ruptured.
Repair and replacement work is in progress, and the department expects the problem to be resolved within the next two days.
For now, however, hundreds of families continue to endure long waits for water, highlighting the urgent need for quicker infrastructure repairs and a more reliable water supply system in the city.
