Indian Olympian Wrestler wins on Congress ticket to enter Haryana Assembly

Vinesh Phogat, the Olympian wrestler who had made headlines recently has become a legislator, thus adding another fame to her name.

She defeated BJP’s Yogesh Kumar by a margin of 6015 votes in a congress ticket.
Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling after an unfortunate defeat in the recently concluded Olympics based on being overweight by just 100 gm.
She became so distraught that she decided to quit wrestling.
However, Congress decided to field her after her intentions to join politics became known.
She faced another woman wrestler Kavita Dalal from AAP.
Vinesh hails from Charkhi Dadri village in Haryana.
Although she is a novice in politics her strong views on social issues are well known.
She became famous for waging a legal battle against sexual exploitation of women.
