Coast Guard chopper crashes in Gujarat’s Porbandar, three killed
Three crew members tragically lost their lives after an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopter crashed during landing at Porbandar airport in Gujarat on Sunday afternoon, police reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 pm, according to Bhagirathsinh Jadeja, Superintendent of Police, Porbandar. The helicopter involved in the accident was an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) belonging to the ICG.
While attempting to land at the Porbandar airport, the helicopter met with an accident, resulting in severe damage. All three crew members onboard were immediately extracted from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby hospital in Porbandar for emergency medical attention. However, due to severe burn injuries sustained during the crash, all three succumbed to their injuries, confirmed Kamala Baug police station inspector Rajesh Kamiya.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the deceased crew members, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. The tragic incident highlights the inherent risks faced by personnel operating in challenging conditions to ensure national security and safety.
