Now, more than two decades later, the iconic talk show is making a comeback — and stepping into Shaikh’s shoes is an actor who understands the weight of the legacy he is inheriting.
R. Madhavan has been announced as the new host of ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai 2.0’, which will stream on ZEE5 as part of the platform’s biggest multilingual content slate to date.
The revival was officially confirmed during ZEE5’s content showcase, though a streaming date is yet to be announced.
For Madhavan, the decision to host the show is not merely a professional assignment — it is a deeply personal responsibility.
In a statement, he reflected on why the format remains as relevant today as it was when Shaikh first pioneered it.
“Today, we have unprecedented access to the lives of people we admire.
We know what they do, where they go, and what they share — but we rarely get to know who they truly are.
That’s what makes ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’ so relevant even today,” he said.
The original show, which aired on ZEE TV, became legendary for its ability to draw out honest, deeply human conversations from celebrities.
Shaikh, known for his understated elegance and natural curiosity, never resorted to sensationalism.
He simply listened — and in doing so, he made his guests feel safe enough to be vulnerable. It was a rare gift, and one that Madhavan recognises with humility.

As ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’ returns on ZEE5, we endeavor to preserve the soul of the original while making it resonate with today’s audiences.”
R.Madhavan also offered a glimpse into what viewers can expect from the new season.
Rather than simply replicating the past, the show will bring together a fresh generation of inspiring personalities.
“This season, we’ll bring together extraordinary personalities and legends who have taken India to the global stage, while uncovering the defining moments, relationships and untold stories that shaped their journeys,” he said.
“Because beyond every achievement and every headline is a human story waiting to be told, and those are the stories that truly stay with us.”
ZEE5, in its announcement, described the original programme as “a cultural phenomenon that left an enduring impact on audiences across generations.”
The platform noted that the show became synonymous with heartfelt and deeply personal conversations under the legendary stewardship of Farooq Shaikh.
With Madhavan at the helm, ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai 2.0’ aims to continue that tradition while introducing it to a new generation of viewers who may be discovering the magic of such conversations for the first time.
Farooq Shaikh, who passed away in December 2013, left behind a body of work that included memorable performances in films like ‘Chashme Buddoor’, ‘Umrao Jaan’, and ‘Katha’.
But for many, his greatest contribution to Indian popular culture remained his role as the host of ‘Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai’.
The show’s return, therefore, is not just a revival of a format — it is a tribute to a man who believed that beneath every public figure lay a human being with stories worth telling.
For Madhavan, who has built a career spanning Hindi, Tamil and Telugu cinema, hosting the show marks a new chapter.
