Amit Shah Unveils ₹700-Crore Amul Dairy Project in Bengal, Says BJP Committed to Restoring ‘Sonar Bangla’
Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday launched a sharp political attack on the former Left Front and Trinamool Congress (TMC) governments, alleging that decades of their rule had weakened the economic and cultural legacy of ‘Sonar Bangla’.
Addressing a public gathering after virtually laying the foundation stone for Amul’s first dairy processing plant in West Bengal, Shah asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was committed to reviving the state’s lost prominence and restoring its historical stature.
The virtual foundation-laying ceremony for the dairy project was held at Rajarhat, on the eastern outskirts of Kolkata.
Shah described the political transformation witnessed in the state as a significant milestone, saying the recent Assembly elections reflected a distinct shift in public sentiment unlike any electoral exercise witnessed in the country since Independence.
Recalling Bengal’s contribution to the nation’s history, the Union minister said the state had once led India in education, cultural renaissance, religious reform movements and the freedom struggle.
According to him, Bengal gradually moved away from that legacy during years of communist rule and later under the Trinamool Congress government.
Shah alleged that after emerging from communist ideology, the state fell under what he described as corrupt governance, resulting in the fading of the vision of ‘Sonar Bangla’ imagined by Rabindranath Tagore.
He credited Suvendu Adhikari’s political campaign between 2016 and 2026, along with sustained efforts by the BJP, for placing the state on a path towards reclaiming that vision.
The flagship Amul Bengal Dairy Project, coming up at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah district, will be developed with an estimated investment of around ₹700 crore.
The plant is designed to process nearly 30 lakh litres of milk every day and manufacture approximately 10 lakh kilograms of curd daily, besides producing butter, ice cream and other dairy products.
Highlighting the project’s economic significance, Shah said more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers, including over 30,000 women, would directly benefit from the initiative.
He added that the upcoming facility would become India’s largest curd production plant.
Responding to criticism from political opponents, he remarked that the project was not intended to make Bengal resemble Gujarat, but rather to strengthen Bengal’s own economy.
He said curd produced at the plant would be supplied to consumers across the country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
Praising the cooperative model of Amul, Shah said it had grown into the world’s largest dairy cooperative through the collective participation of 36 lakh members, each of whom initially contributed ₹100.
He added that the Union government also plans to establish a cattle breeding centre in the state.
According to him, the long-term objective is to ensure that every farming family in West Bengal owns at least two milch animals over the next 15 years, with milk procurement being supported through the cooperative network.
Besides the dairy project, the Home Minister inaugurated several other initiatives, including a cooperative society for taxi drivers, aimed at strengthening the cooperative movement and generating additional livelihood opportunities in the state.
During his two-day visit to West Bengal, which began on Friday night, Shah also chaired a high-level meeting in Kolkata with senior police officials and representatives of various security agencies.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the meeting focused on cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh, activities of terror outfits and the presence of foreign nationals allegedly staying in the state after the expiry of their visas.
Speaking about the purpose of his visit, Shah said he had come to review border security, assess measures against illegal infiltration and examine issues relating to the safety of women.
He added that the details of these deliberations would subsequently be shared with the state Assembly by the Chief Minister.
Addressing the event, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for supporting the state government’s development agenda.
He also urged the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) to establish two more Amul dairy plants in North Bengal and South Bengal, a proposal that received a positive response from senior federation officials present at the programme.
Launching a fresh attack on previous governments, Adhikari alleged that five decades of rule by the Left Front and the Trinamool Congress had weakened Bengal’s economy.
He said the state would now benefit from what he described as the advantages of a “double-engine government”, adding that the ₹700-crore Amul investment demonstrated growing confidence in Bengal’s development prospects.
Earlier in the day, Shah visited the National Library in Kolkata to inaugurate the Museum of Words, an interactive museum dedicated to the evolution of languages and vocabulary.
Addressing school students during the event, he emphasised the importance of preserving India’s linguistic heritage, saying cultural revival begins with understanding the roots of native languages.
He also advocated that children should receive education in their mother tongue and encouraged every Indian to learn at least one additional Indian language besides their own.

कोलकाता: केंद्रीय गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने रविवार को पश्चिम बंगाल की पूर्व वाम मोर्चा और तृणमूल कांग्रेस (टीएमसी) सरकारों पर तीखा हमला बोलते हुए आरोप लगाया कि उनके लंबे शासनकाल ने ‘सोनार बांग्ला’ की ऐतिहासिक, सांस्कृतिक और आर्थिक पहचान को कमजोर कर दिया।
अमूल की पश्चिम बंगाल में पहली डेयरी परियोजना की वर्चुअल आधारशिला रखते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) राज्य की खोई हुई प्रतिष्ठा और गौरव को पुनः स्थापित करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध है।
यह कार्यक्रम कोलकाता के पूर्वी हिस्से में स्थित राजारहाट में आयोजित किया गया। शाह ने कहा कि हाल के विधानसभा चुनावों में जनता द्वारा दिया गया जनादेश राज्य की राजनीति में बड़े परिवर्तन का संकेत है और यह बदलाव स्वतंत्रता के बाद हुए चुनावों की तुलना में एक अलग संदेश देता है।
बंगाल के ऐतिहासिक योगदान का उल्लेख करते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि शिक्षा, सांस्कृतिक जागरण, धार्मिक सुधार आंदोलनों और स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में यह राज्य कभी पूरे देश का नेतृत्व करता था। उनके अनुसार, पहले वामपंथी शासन और बाद में तृणमूल कांग्रेस के कार्यकाल में यह गौरवशाली विरासत धीरे-धीरे कमजोर होती चली गई।
गृह मंत्री ने कहा कि रवीन्द्रनाथ ठाकुर द्वारा परिकल्पित ‘सोनार बांग्ला’ का सपना इन वर्षों में धूमिल हो गया। उन्होंने दावा किया कि 2016 से 2026 के बीच सुवेंदु अधिकारी के नेतृत्व में भाजपा के लगातार संघर्ष ने राज्य को उस स्वर्णिम पहचान की दिशा में आगे बढ़ाने का मार्ग प्रशस्त किया है।
हावड़ा जिले के सांकराइल फूड पार्क में बनने वाली अमूल बंगाल डेयरी परियोजना पर लगभग 700 करोड़ रुपये का निवेश किया जाएगा। इस अत्याधुनिक संयंत्र में प्रतिदिन 30 लाख लीटर दूध का प्रसंस्करण होगा तथा करीब 10 लाख किलोग्राम दही का उत्पादन किया जाएगा। इसके अलावा यहां मक्खन, आइसक्रीम और अन्य दुग्ध उत्पाद भी तैयार किए जाएंगे।
परियोजना के महत्व पर प्रकाश डालते हुए अमित शाह ने कहा कि इससे पश्चिम बंगाल के 1.25 लाख से अधिक दुग्ध उत्पादक किसानों, जिनमें 30 हजार से अधिक महिलाएं शामिल हैं, को सीधा लाभ मिलेगा।
उन्होंने कहा कि यह संयंत्र देश का सबसे बड़ा दही उत्पादन केंद्र बनेगा। राजनीतिक आलोचनाओं का जवाब देते हुए उन्होंने कहा कि यह परियोजना गुजरात के लिए नहीं, बल्कि बंगाल की समृद्धि के लिए है।
यहां तैयार होने वाला मीठा दही कश्मीर से कन्याकुमारी तक देशभर के परिवारों तक पहुंचेगा।
अमूल के सहकारी मॉडल की सराहना करते हुए शाह ने कहा कि यह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी डेयरी सहकारी संस्था है, जिसकी शुरुआत 36 लाख लोगों के मात्र 100-100 रुपये के योगदान से हुई थी।
उन्होंने यह भी घोषणा की कि केंद्र सरकार राज्य में एक पशु प्रजनन केंद्र स्थापित करेगी। उनका कहना था कि अगले 15 वर्षों में राज्य के प्रत्येक किसान परिवार के पास कम से कम दो दुधारू पशु हों और उनके दूध की खरीद सहकारी व्यवस्था के माध्यम से सुनिश्चित की जाए।
इस अवसर पर गृह मंत्री ने डेयरी परियोजना के अलावा कई अन्य विकास कार्यों का भी उद्घाटन किया, जिनमें टैक्सी चालकों के लिए एक सहकारी समिति की शुरुआत भी शामिल है।
अपने दो दिवसीय पश्चिम बंगाल दौरे के दौरान अमित शाह ने रविवार सुबह कोलकाता में वरिष्ठ पुलिस अधिकारियों और विभिन्न सुरक्षा एजेंसियों के साथ उच्चस्तरीय बैठक भी की।
अधिकारियों के अनुसार बैठक में बांग्लादेश से होने वाली घुसपैठ, आतंकवादी संगठनों की गतिविधियों तथा वीजा अवधि समाप्त होने के बाद भी राज्य में रह रहे विदेशी नागरिकों से जुड़े मुद्दों पर विस्तार से चर्चा हुई।
अपने दौरे के उद्देश्य पर बोलते हुए शाह ने कहा कि वह सीमाओं की सुरक्षा की समीक्षा, घुसपैठ के खिलाफ कार्रवाई की निगरानी और महिलाओं की सुरक्षा से जुड़े विषयों का आकलन करने के लिए राज्य आए थे। उन्होंने कहा कि इन बैठकों का विस्तृत विवरण बाद में मुख्यमंत्री विधानसभा में साझा करेंगे।
कार्यक्रम को संबोधित करते हुए मुख्यमंत्री सुवेंदु अधिकारी ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और अमित शाह का राज्य के विकास कार्यक्रमों को समर्थन देने के लिए आभार व्यक्त किया।
उन्होंने गुजरात कोऑपरेटिव मिल्क मार्केटिंग फेडरेशन (जीसीएमएमएफ) से उत्तर बंगाल और दक्षिण बंगाल में अमूल के दो और डेयरी संयंत्र स्थापित करने का अनुरोध किया, जिस पर कार्यक्रम में मौजूद फेडरेशन के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने सकारात्मक प्रतिक्रिया दी।
सुवेंदु अधिकारी ने आरोप लगाया कि वाम मोर्चा और तृणमूल कांग्रेस के लगभग पांच दशक के शासन ने बंगाल की अर्थव्यवस्था को कमजोर कर दिया।
उन्होंने कहा कि अब राज्य को डबल इंजन सरकार का लाभ मिलेगा और 700 करोड़ रुपये का अमूल निवेश इस बात का प्रमाण है कि बंगाल में विकास और निवेश की नई संभावनाएं पैदा हो रही हैं।
इससे पहले दिन में अमित शाह ने कोलकाता स्थित राष्ट्रीय पुस्तकालय में ‘म्यूजियम ऑफ वर्ड्स’ का उद्घाटन किया। इस इंटरैक्टिव संग्रहालय में शब्दों और भाषाओं की उत्पत्ति तथा विकास को आधुनिक तकनीक के माध्यम से प्रदर्शित किया गया है।
स्कूल के विद्यार्थियों को संबोधित करते हुए शाह ने कहा कि भारत की सांस्कृतिक विरासत को मजबूत करने के लिए अपनी भाषाओं की जड़ों को समझना आवश्यक है।
उन्होंने मातृभाषा में शिक्षा का समर्थन करते हुए कहा कि प्रत्येक भारतीय को अपनी मातृभाषा के अलावा कम से कम एक अन्य भारतीय भाषा भी सीखनी चाहिए।
