Amritsar Drug and Arms Bust: Police Recover 20 Kg Heroin, Expose Cross-Border Smuggling Network
In a breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, Punjab Police have seized nearly 20 kilograms of heroin from multiple locations in Amritsar district.
The operation also led to the recovery of weapons and the arrest of two individuals allegedly linked to an international smuggling syndicate operating across the India-Pakistan border.
According to investigators, the first recovery was made near the Border Security Force (BSF) checkpoint at Bhaini Rajputan village.
Acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted suspicious activity and recovered around 11 kilograms of heroin. The accused was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.
During the follow-up investigation, authorities conducted searches at another location and uncovered an additional six kilograms of heroin. Officers also seized illegal firearms and ammunition believed to have been supplied through the same trafficking network.
Police officials stated that the two arrested suspects were allegedly involved in coordinating the movement of drugs and weapons.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused maintained links with foreign-based smugglers and played a role in facilitating the delivery of contraband into Indian territory.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the operation was launched after law-enforcement agencies received credible information about a planned narcotics consignment.
Investigators suspect that Pakistan-based smuggler Mola Sampari was involved in arranging the shipment and directing its movement across the border.
During interrogation, both suspects reportedly admitted that the heroin had been transported from Pakistan and was intended for distribution through a larger criminal network.
Their statements helped investigators trace additional evidence and identify other individuals who may be connected to the operation.
Police have registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as well as relevant provisions related to illegal possession of weapons.
Authorities are now examining financial records, communication data, and logistical routes used by the alleged syndicate.
Officials believe the seizures have dealt a significant blow to cross-border drug trafficking activities in the region.
Investigations remain ongoing, with security agencies working to dismantle the wider network and identify all individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
