UP ATS Uncovers Railway Sabotage Plot: Terror Suspects Allegedly Trained to Target Train Tracks

Security agencies in Uttar Pradesh have intensified efforts to prevent possible attacks on the railway network after several suspected extremists were arrested in connection with an alleged conspiracy to derail trains.

Investigators claim the accused had been preparing to carry out acts of sabotage and had received training linked to extremist activities.

According to officials, the arrested individuals reportedly admitted during interrogation that they were influenced by handlers based in Pakistan and were tasked with disrupting railway operations.

Investigators allege that the suspects were instructed to damage railway tracks and create conditions that could lead to serious accidents.

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) launched a major operation earlier this year and arrested four suspects near Charbagh Railway Station in Lucknow on April 3.

During questioning, authorities reportedly discovered that the group had been involved in planning attacks on railway infrastructure and gathering information about vulnerable locations.

Officials said the suspects had allegedly been working with extremist networks and were conducting reconnaissance of important railway routes.

Investigators believe the group had identified several locations across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Maharashtra, where railway installations and security personnel could potentially be targeted.

The ATS has identified several individuals as key members of the alleged module. Authorities claim the group underwent specialised training and maintained contact with operatives outside India.

Investigators are continuing to examine digital evidence, communication records and financial transactions to determine the full extent of the network.

Security agencies have also revealed that questioning of the arrested suspects has led to fresh leads.

Based on the information gathered, officials are now focusing on additional individuals who may have played significant roles in planning or facilitating the alleged plot.

Authorities stated that enhanced surveillance measures had already been introduced before the recent arrests.

Routine inspections of railway tracks and monitoring of sensitive locations were intensified following intelligence inputs regarding possible threats to rail operations.

Railway Police, intelligence agencies and local law-enforcement units are now working in coordination to strengthen security arrangements across the state.

Regular patrols, track inspections, and increased vigilance at major railway stations have been ordered to ensure passenger safety and prevent attempts to disrupt rail services.

Officials emphasized that investigations are ongoing and that strict action will be taken against anyone found to be involved in activities that threaten public safety or critical transport infrastructure.
